Barnum and Lincoln

In April 1869 the spirit photographer Mumler was brought to trial for fraud. The showman P.T. Barnum volunteered to testify against him because he felt that Mumler was taking advantage of people whose judgement was clouded by grief. To prove spirit photos were fake, Barnum paid a photographer to create this picture of himself with the ghostly image of Lincoln. Despite Barnum's efforts, the charges against Mumler were dismissed.
