A Sharpshooter's Last Sleep

The photographer Alexander Gardner claimed that these two images showed Confederate sharpshooters lying where they had been shot during the Battle of Gettysburg. But in 1975 William Frassanito determined that the same body appears in both images. In other words, Gardner had evidently moved a dead soldier's body around to pose it in various dramatic locations. The rifle was also a prop, meaning that the soldier was not even a sharpshooter.
