The Tape
She-is-here.com and its companion site, the-tape.com, seem to be fairly obvious marketing attempts to 'blairwitch' the upcoming sequel to the horror movie, The Ring (i.e. to create hoax websites to generate interest about it). But still, I've received a couple of worried emails from people who have watched 'the tape' and are a little concerned, so I thought I should post something about it. As far as I know, no stringy-haired decomposing girl is going to crawl out of a well and kill you if you watch the tape. Though I'm playing it safe. I made my wife watch the tape. She then made the cat watch it. My cat is the one posting this message (she hit the mouse button with her paw to click submit), so if any one of you watches 'the tape' she'll be safe.

YEEEEE - FREAKIN' - HAWW, Alex. This has to be about the funniest post you have put on this site. I don't think I've laughed so hard at an interwebamathing site in about three years. If you keep this up, Jay Leno is going to have you on his show.

It's a hoax site just found for The Ring or a new one for The Ring 2.

Let's hear a collective "YAY" for the Photoshop smudge tool!

Also, I don't see how people would believe this is real. What about the Japanese version of the film? I don't hear anyone talking about Sadako and HER tape.
Posted by Sarah on Sat Jan 29, 2005 at 09:44 AM
the testimonies on she-is-here are incredibly similar in style; clearly the work of someone of very limited imagination! either that or its another effect of the tape...

i particularly like the 12 yr old day 6 girl who has given the tape to a good half-dozen people who have mildly irritated her

no worries, i just watched it... it's not that scary... i spammed it by email anyway, so if you get it you'll see my email at the top and know that I started something! :D

Unfortunately it looks like Netflix doesn't have 'Dark Water'. But from its IMDB description, it sounds good.

I'm not really interested in the film, but I do want to know why it takes five words to say "Dark Water" in Japanese.
Or is this one of those titles that loses everything in the translation?

Actually, just "Honogurai mizu" means dark water. They shortened the title for the English remake, since "Honogurai mizu no soko kara" is more of an idiom than anything else, so a literal translation in English would be long.
I hope this movie doesn't suck; I didn't really think the original was that great.

I get a lot of translation calls...things that take minutes & minutes to answer are simply, "Yes, it's blue," or something similar.
Maybe someone who knows something about Japanese film-making can answer this. How come they get remade in English, w/ caucasion actors? I realize that an English language film may do better than a subtitled film, but to remake the whole thing seems a bit redunant and expensive. Run, Lola, Run was a huge hit & it sells in a dubbed version, or German w/ English subtitles. I prefer to watch the original w/ English subtitles, after a while, you sort of forget you're reading it. So...why the whole remake & not a dubbed version instead?

It has to do with "The Ring 2" coming out next month...

I have 2 copies of "the tape", i found it funny that someone would spend the time to do this. At least it was done better than the blairwitch movies!

It's definitely a hoax. I clicked on a link that said something like 'Do you know Jake?' and it showed a picture of a kid that looked very familiar. I knew I had seen him in Halloween:Ressurection so I looked him up (his name is Ryan Merriman) and sure enough he is in the movie Ring 2. So this site is definitely a hoax used to promote the Ring 2.

Well, I just watched it. I'll check back in with you in 7 days. If you don't hear from me, just know that I've really enjoyed my time here in the forum.
Just to be safe, can someone else please watch it on my behalf? Thanks.

You'd have to search online or ask movie makers.
Its just that...look at the world. A lot of people are use to seeing more caucasion (well known) actors then, Black, Asian, Indian etc etc ones.
Even though there are a large number of American Asian actors avalible...studios want remakes to be huge and known so they can cash in on it and that particular Actor. BUT don't get them wrong, a lot of directors really enjoy watching the original and would like a remake in 'their style' (which is how i look at a remake...which is the point! its not suppose to follow the original to a T...that would be stupid).
I enjoyed Ring remake for its different style.
Though Japanese horror gets boring with the...longhaired girl, water, some scared woman, and little boy.
Ok, here we go again... Alex, your cat is defenitely safe. I'll be a guinea-pig this time and not forward this to anyone as I did with the "toma sota balcu" thing. I hope I can check back with you in a week. I know I will live in fear, but I'll take the chance of this being just a hoax. Please cross your fingers for me, as I try to desmistify this thing once and for all!

I watched the-tape.com just about 2 hours ago and nothing has happened yet. It was wierd but I'm not worried. A tape can't kill you!
