Phone-Eating Dog
From The Register comes a news report about a dog who swallowed a mobile phone. The owner of the phone only realized what happened when the phone started ringing... inside the dog's stomach. Now it seems to me that a) most dogs would not swallow something as large as a mobile phone, though it could happen; and b) the acid inside a dog's stomach would pretty quickly short-circuit a phone. Oh, and c) The Register says it got the news report from Ananova. And everyone knows how reliable Ananova is. (via Engadget)

you know, I think there's been a cell phone commercial with this exact type of situation

I remember hearing a urban legend of the similar type, except that the animal was supposed to be a cat.

Yes, I have seen this advertisement on the telly at least a dozen times in Singapore.

I've seen a cell phone that was the size of a wristwatch. And if the dog was a great dane or wolfhound it could've easily swallowed it.

About a million years ago (probably in the 1960s, to be a bit less vague), there was a movie where the British spy agency implants a small microphone and transmitter in a bulldog, then give the dog as a gift to the head of the Soviet Union so they can eavesdrop on the Kremlin. I think it was called, "The Spy With the Cold Nose." It just goes to show that a good story never dies.

Does no one remember Captain Hook any more?

I've seen rocks removed from dogs (from the stomach or intestines) that were only slightly smaller than my cell phone. I doubt if it would still be able to ring, though.

Pish, that's an old one. I'm pretty sure I've seen it on Snopes, or at least on one of those urban legends shows forever airing on The Learning Channel/Discovery Channel.

Well I would have thought it was all impossible until this am a good friend of mine emailed to say that her boxer had eaten her cell phone.

It gave me great giggles to tease her about not feeding her dogs. Now, I don't think that the phone would be in any way shape of form salvagable.

I work at a cell phone store and today an old man came in saying that his dog ate his cell phone. I didn't belive him until he told me to call the phone. So, i did and it rang from inside the dogs stomach. Pretty insane.
