Have them make you a member to prove that it is not a hoax.

I wouldn't sweat their "threat," Alex. It's exactly the kind of thing I would do if I had made up a "secret" club and I wanted to get additional attention for it.

Maybe if they didn't have their domain registered with a fake address (FACT) then people wouldn't suspect it was a hoax.

Unlike many requests I've seen, this one is actually very polite. However, I don't think you have an ethical responsibility to remove your article. Linking to somewhere (as long as you're not misrepresenting it somehow) is an allowed behavior.

Say that you will only remove the link if they make you "honorable member" or something and you can tell us obout their "take over the sports world" plan refering as the "bsc".

I wouldn't remove the link, but maybe just put a disclaimer, and change the catagory. You have it listed under "hoax websites".

I don't know if any are still doing it, but many years ago I remember coming across sites that had notices on them that you could not link to them without their express permission. People I talked to at the time said they thought a site could legally stop you from linking to them, and even understood the reasoning behind it, on "association" grounds (i.e., not wanting to be seen as associated with a porn site, for example).
Considering this is supposed to be an "exclusive club," I could understand why they wouldn't want their site made public.

Still, it doesn't explain why they're registered at a non-existent address. One would assume that if they weren't a hoax, they'd have a real address.

If they don't want you to link to them, don't link. I don't think your site needs to cover this one, anyway.

you are in the entertainment biz....have your agent contact them.it could be a clever way of passing vital info back and forth between agents, friends or enemies.
a private site plus a few code words would do it. E-mail would also serve but here there is the addition of a 'buffer' and the names of the correspondents could remain confidential.

I say, send them an e-mail saying that as their domain is registered at a fake address, you have every reason to continue to suspect them of being a hoax.

Maybe they registered a fake address on purpose? so peopel cant contact them? after all its meant to be a private website!! i emailed them and they jusy emailed back saying

"We do not accept requests from general members of the public,sorry."

Jeesh, guys. This 'Black Spider Club' sounds pretty stupid, if you ask me. Tell them to make you a member, and you'll remove the link. An eye for an eye, right?

Even better would to report on the 'Club' again, once you get in!

And, if this was a 'serious' threat, wouldn't you expect them to scream about the various legal actions that they could use on you? Of course, they would. They're 'sports' people, so they could probably afford numerous lawyers.

Alex, you could always take the link off, but list it as a text URL. That way visitors to MOH can still visit the site, but it's not a link so they could stay of google radar if that is what they so desire.

It seems a bit kinky they would put up a "secret web site" like that. It's a bit like putting a notice on a public wall and expecting people not to read it. The people who put it up are either very dumb or they are doing some marketing thing.

It's a tough call, but if I were you, I wouldn't remove the mention of the club from your site. It's bad journalism (an MoH is a kind of journalism) to let your subjects decide whether or not you mention them and/or what you can say about them.
If somethng you write is false, you should correct it or remove it. But I wouldn't remove it just because somebody (who may or may not really speak for this club that may or may not exist) says they want you to.

I respect them for not being flaming asses, actually. Alot of people, for various reasons of insanity will scream about legal representation, even more so when there is no legal justification for the supposedly violated rights they claim to know. These people, very politely asked to be removed, without threats, rants or ravings. I'm actually hoping the link is removed, as it would please me to see such urbanity rewarded.

I wouldn't remove the link. I would tell them to go fuck themselves. I get requests all the time from people to remove their pics from my sight and I don't. It's just the internet anyway

I suggest you remove the link ASAP. It obviously is a exclusive club with a cool name. I wonder who is a member? Colin Powell? Fred Savage? Ron Popiel? Jim Brown? Don't mess with the Black Spider Club. Or else.

People still need to search for something on Google to get hits, it's not like Google now features their site on its home page. If people search for "Black Spider Club" on Google, it means they already know that they're looking for this thing, so where's the secrecy then?
