I wonder what the male vs. female demographics for the areas of Japan where the study was done are? That could have something to do with it, too.

The number is posible quite high but 40 year old virgins who are not disfuntional do exist.. I am one 😊

You never know, maybe Japanese men are just more willing to tell the truth. If the study was done in a Western country, how many men would lie?

The figure of 7.9% of Japanese men over 40 being virgins sounds entirely reasonable to me. I would think there is a similar figure here in England. Maybe the Japanese are just more honest than us English.
You must grasp that older virgins, both male and female but particularly male, are MUCH more common than is generally realised. I have good knowledge of this subject, having studied it, and being a fit, healthy, world-travelled 48-year-old male virgin myself!

White men tend to brag and therefore tend to be less than they claim. Japanese men are more humble and tend to be more than they claim.

I would not be surprised if it is true that this percentage of men are still virgins. Japanese men are in no rush to marry and those in professional careers work very long hours. Finding time for romance is not easy and finding true romance is never easy anyway. Also the somewhat reserved culture of Japan does make this believable.

I am not surprised, I find it hard to believe stats that claim only about 3% of 30 year old men are virgins in the west. Surely many men like me are shy, they account for a large percentage, you know being unable to leave the house that much. But more so, surely the very fat, the very ugly, and people with some severe disabilities, mental and more, are virgins. And what about people who have dreadful scars on them, or people who are deeply religious, they exist, and people who can not have sex for physical reasons, and as of having certain illnesses. I think, and surely otherwise some of the people who are not virgins, just had sex with women who I would not want to anyway. i.e women with the above listed problems. Maybe brothels should be more legal in Japan, so this quarter of men, can do what they surely want, even the people I said are likely to be virgins. And they should regulate the brothels massively to stop any STDs.

I am a 26 year old virgin and usually when you find out information about "not being the only one" you feel better, but I feel tremendously worse.
