Worst Named Bus
About a week ago I posted a picture of a 'Big Hairy Fanny' bus that supposedly operates in Finland. I suspected the picture was a fake, and it turns out that my suspicion was correct. Quite a few people commented that they had seen other pictures of the same bus with the name 'Fücker' painted on the side, and today Iain Cartmill sent me a picture of this bus. A quick google search turned up lots of other images of it, as well as the website of the Fücker travel company, based in Germany (click on the 'Die Busflotte' button to see pictures of the bus in question). So the Fücker Bus is real, but the Big Hairy Fanny Bus is fake. The mystery is why anyone photoshopped the picture to read 'Big Hairy Fanny,' since the actual name is funnier than the hoax name.

I agree. Whoever photoshopped it ruined it completely. And the picture of the people in the background are the same in both pictures.

A guess may be that it was someone trying to demonstrate how easy it would be for someone to have faked up the original...?

In England "fanny" is a commonly used term for the female reproductive organ. That's why they refer to fanny-packs as bum-bags.

In England "irony" is a commonly used form of humour to make up for the fact that we've already used up the best jokes, and now have to reverse the punchlines to create new ones. The overtly faked 'Big Hairy Fanny' bus is ten times funnier than the original "oh aren't foreigners stupid in their accidental use of swear words". Or am I being ironic? Aargh, it's all so complicated. But trust me, fanny is a hilarious word over here.

To a Scandinavian, none of these two names are that funny. Don't you see the dots above some of the characters? The first one does NOT say "Big hairy fanny", transcribed to the English alphabet it says something like "big heiry fenny". And the supposedly real one says "Fycker".

By the way, this reminds me of the Romanian taxi company called Tod (the nickname of it's owner, Teodor). It could have been an English or American company as well, but I bet no German tourists would really want to get into any of their cars ("Tod" is "death" in German).

Hi, Zoltan. We have logistics company in Norway which has a large fleet of trucks and lorries with the company name emblazoned on the side of the vehichles. The name is "Toten Transport" :-D

On a tour of Europe in 2003, i was touring the dutch palace when my family and i saw this "fucker" bus pass by. Being american we took a picture of this strange sight, and i have an authentic picture which looks similiar to the one above.

Yup, I've seen the Fucker bus here in Luxembourg - laughed my head off at that one :D
There's an indian restaurant in Dublin called Nagina Tandoori - it's great (childish) fun looking at the sign with the first part of the 'N' covered up by a light pole or the side of the neighbouring building ... (try Googling it - there are pictures out there)
Signs that use a foreign language to seem more 'exotic' can be hilarious - there's one here in Luxembourg by the name of Beauty Free Salon - hopefully they sell cheap makeup rather than makeovers because otherwise I reckon their English-speaking customer base would be fairly non-existent!

RE: Fucker Bus
Thanks for posting the notice about the Fucker bus. I thought I was going nuts. While visiting the Rodin Museum in Paris in May of 2006 I snapped a picture of the bus just as it was pulling away. I thought my eyes were playing tricks but my camera proved otherwise. I have been searching ever since for some validation of what I saw. Thank goodness. Found the comment about "TOD" taxis also amusing. I like your site. BTW, I have the Fucker bus picture if you need me to upload it to you.
