Who is Robert Irvine?

What we can say with certainty is that Robert Irvine is the host of the Food Network's show Dinner: Impossible. I've watched this before and found it entertaining. Though Irvine comes across as pretty arrogant.

However, many other facts about Irvine's career have now been called into question. For instance, in the past Irvine has claimed that he was knighted by the Queen, that he owns a castle in Scotland, that he cooked at the White House, and that he created the wedding cake for Prince Charles and Princess Diana.

None of this, it turns out, is true.

A Food Network spokeswoman says, "It's unfortunate if Robert embellished the extent of his culinary experiences. We are investigating the matter and taking the necessary steps to ensure the accuracy of all representations of Robert on Food Network and foodnetwork.com."

I'm sure that'll be the extent of the Food Network's reprimand of him, since his show is too popular to cancel.

I don't know about Britain, but here in my country claiming an official title you don't have would be a criminal offence.

OK, once again someone got caught padding a resume. There is no way to know how often this succeeds, but once someone is high-profile the odds would seem to be against them. It isn't a crime here in the USA to claim to be a knight, since the title isn't hereditary it isn't prohibited by the Federal Constitution, nor to own property in another country, nor to have cooked in the White House, etc. But the Food Network should can him even though his show is popular.

Didn't they kick someone off the Next Food Network Star for padding his resume? If they allow Irvine to stay, I would sue.

Reminds me of when Jerry Doyle (Garibaldi, Babylon 5) claimed to have put "Dance Theater of Harlem" on his resume to see if people would check. HA!

1. If I were interviewing him for a job, any *ONE* of those claims would have raised a red flag.
2. If his resume meant anything for the job, any *ONE* of those claims could have been easily verified/disputed. Can't really claim sour grapes this long after.
3. I don't think viewers have a basis to sue. Did they really watch the show because of the claims he made Chuck and Di's wedding cake? I don't think so!
