War Widow By Proxy

Sarah Kenney said that her husband died in Iraq when he dove in front of a bullet that would have hit a child. Her story attracted the sympathy of a group called Homefront Heroes, which then told the media about it. But it turns out that Kenney's husband didn't die in Iraq. He's still alive and well here in America. He isn't even a soldier. Kenney had made the entire thing up. This sounds like a case of Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy, in which people attract attention by inventing illnesses in others (usually claiming that their children are sick, but claiming that a husband has died would seem to fit the description of the syndrome as well). Kenney later made a statement to the press: "I think I need some serious counseling... This is the most serious lie I've ever told, but I've been caught in many lies." Sounds like she's heading in the right direction, but still seems a little creepy.

This really takes me back.
During the first Gulf War under George I, a co-worker told everyone in the office that his brother had been killed fighting in Iraq. He took time off from work to attend the funeral. We eventually found out that the brother never existed. A little later, the same co-worker resigned and then told everybody he'd been fired.
Is that Munchausen by Proxy, or just being a pathological liar? I'm not sure.

Munchausen Syndrome by Proxy is more than just falsely claiming someone else is ill. They actually completely fake it. They might for example give their child insulin so that when the doctor checks, the blood sugar is low.

I once called in sick because I told them I had really bad explosive diareaha, while in reality I went on a trip to Vegas. I guess I'm just as bad...

Sometimes I look in the mirror and see a monster.

brian, if in the future you ever need a fake doctor's note to get out of work, I'll do my best to provide you with one. Many consider me the internet's premier source for fake doctor notes.

Whatever this woman's problem is, it's sad. She does need some serious help, and I hope she gets it. Needing serious help is also the woman in Florida who, today, was found to have faked the whole 'Baby thrown from a car window' story. Afraid she's going to be in quite a bit more trouble with the law, though.

Well, this morning's news said no charges are being filed against the Florida woman, but she is being held for psychiatric evaluation. And under state law, the baby is not available for adoption. (Thousands had called, emailed, etc, in just two days, offering adoption). It'd be just like Florida to let her have the baby back -idiots.

Oh my dawg...I had a roommate who had both Munchausen's and Munchausen's by Proxy. She was a nurse (many Munchausen's victims work in medical fields), and she'd bring home huge boxes of trial size packages of Valium, Vicodin, etc. One morning, one of her kids wouldn't wake up...she took him into her office, and they found valium and librium in his system, but they didn't turn her in, because they 'knew what a good mother I am...'. She was also after a married man, whose son had a rare anemia. Well, she saw the concern and worry he went through, and decided she wanted that attention. She claimed to have a rare anemia, it included easy bruising...she was doing it to herself! Then, she starved herself down until she was not only bony, but hypoglycemic, and made a spectacle of herself when she 'passed out' at the bar...now, here she was allegedly in a state of near-coma, but she 'heard' this man fawning over her and caring, etc. I talked to him later, and he said he never went over there...he didn't know anything was wrong until the ambulance showed up. But, she was also a pathological liar, as well...she was one seriously messed up individual. I finally got out of that toxic situation, and she came after me like a rabid hyena for 'abandoning her'...??? Honey, you ain't even my type! Not enough testosterone, there! She was just fuming! Once again, making an ass of herself in public.

Munchausen's by Proxy and Munchausen's are much more serious diseases than what you have posted here. Kenney maybe a pathological liar but to say she has munchausen's is ridiculous and insulting to children of munchausen's by Proxy or MBP. Munchausen's by Proxy is so incredibly different than anything you have listed here. Children who suffer from MBP have visited many doctors with induced or exaggerated illnesses. Their caretaker usually their mother enjoys the attention of doctors and so she causes or fabricates illnesses in her children. Before this is caught older siblings of the victim have usually been killed by the mothers ill mind. Munchausen's is also way different than what you have misreported, the patient enjoys the attention of doctors and wants to have tests or procedures done. These people have usually suffered a life time of abuse or have had a family member with a long time fatal illness, and they want the special attention that person recieved. So you really need to change your story. The women lied she didn't actually kill her husband in Iraq or hurt him in any way.
