The Unrecognised States Numismatic Society
Status: Miscellaneous
The Unrecognised States Numismatic Society (USNS) describes itself as a "group catering to numismatists whose collecting interests largely focus on coins minted by groups purporting, pretending or appearing to be sovereign states, but which are not recognised as such by established governments."They've got examples of coins from a bunch of unrecognized nations, including the Principality of Sealand, Atlantis, the Confederation of Antarctica, and the Dominion of West Florida, which apparently is "an internet-based micronation created on 29 November, 2005... founded on an eccentric interpretation of actual historic events." The Dominion has a website!
My favorite coin is that of the Ultimate State of Tædivm (the thumbnail image).

...I would actually be less surprised if central Florida were trying to dominionize under the crown. It's CRAWLING with brits.

A few years ago, a group calling themselves "The Republic of Texas" started issuing vouchers on the alleged Republic's (nonexistent) national treasury. Several of them ended up in prison for financial fraud. As far as I know, they never minted coins, though.
(There was a real Republic of Texas from 1836 to 1845, but-- according to most of us-- it was absorbed into the United States of America in 1845. The recent provisional RoT activists claimed that the 1845 annexation was never legal. I sort of followed their argument (not that I agreed with it) as to why the government in Washington was not the legitimate government of Texas, but I never understood how they made the leap to the conclusion that therefore THEY were the real sovereign government of Texas.)

Printing their own money and issuing their own citations was cute, but I think their real masterpiece was issuing arrest warrants for federal judges. That one didn't go over well with the marshalls, as I recall.
I never understood how they figured the land was theirs, either. If you follow their logic to its natural conclusion then they should have been fighting to give it back to the Native Americans that had it first, but I guess the buck stops at the white man. Still, I would have bought a coin if they had minted any.
