The Return of Hogzilla

image Quite a few people have emailed me about this. An eleven-year-old Alabama boy claims to have killed a wild hog that's even bigger than Hogzilla. Hogzilla weighed 800lbs and measured 8-feet. Hogzilla II apparently weighs 1050lbs and measures 9-feet-4.
Jamison, who killed his first deer at age 5, was hunting with father Mike Stone and two guides in east Alabama on May 3 when he bagged Hogzilla II. He said he shot the huge animal eight times with a .50- caliber revolver and chased it for three hours through hilly woods before finishing it off with a point-blank shot.
Since Hogzilla turned out to be real, I'm a little hesitant to be skeptical of Hogzilla II. After all, hogs can get big. The boy's father has created a website, monsterpig.com, about the hog.

The fact that the boy is fairly small, being only eleven-years-old, may exaggerate the hog's size in the photo, but I wouldn't call this an intentional attempt to deceive. Overall my hunch is that this is not a hoax.

Kind of makes you wonder how something that huge could find enough to eat.

Wow. That's huge.

You have to kind of feel sorry for the pig though. It would be awful to flee for three hours, injured and scared before being finished off by a pint sized Rambo...

And before anyone suggests it, no, I'm not a vegetarian, I just think hunting for sport is kind of nasty. I think we should only hunt for food.
Not that I know all the details about these people, maybe they do eat everything they kill...if so, that eleven year old is going to get real big, real fast after they've finished of Hogzilla II!

Im just suprised he finished it off at all. Even at point blanc range I can't think how he killed it. How do you get that close to something 10-20 times your size, that is wounded? Boy must have nerves of steel,he's only 11.

Alex, ever thought off putting iant hogs on the tall tale gallery?Even if hogzilla is real, a 1050lb hog just shocks me. It proabaly isn't that huge, seeing as it is a 11-year old.I wonder how on earth the thing got that big.

Wow, a huge hog. How unusual. Let's kill it!!

Same thing with that polar bear/grizzly bear hybrid. It was kind of unique, so of course it had to die.

It's pretty sad, the way humans feel the need to destroy everything. I hope that poor thing rots and stinks up their vicinity for months to come.

I would be very surprised if this turns out to be a native species of pig. Old World species are extremely destructive and one this size would be a walking bomb.

I doubt that's a real hog. There's just something not right about it.

I'm opposed to hunting large game with guns. I think you should go mano-a-mano with the animal. A bow and arrows, or a spear or something. Give the thing a fighting chance.

Besides I don't see any tusks on that pig. Not quite the same as bagging a boar with tusks that could slice you in half.

Not sure at all looks like this could be (somewhat) domesticated.

I saw that kid being interviewed on tv yesterday. I thought about the forum, but alas I didn't have my internet hooked up yet. Hence why I was watching this on tv. The kid said he chased the hog for a few hours before he killed it.

The photo is digitally enhanced. The 11 year old boy was not small by any stretch of the imagination on the news cast. The hog would have to be about the size of an Asian elephant lying on it's side in order to dwarf the boy like the photo shows. Why no verification by non-friends or family, why no live video of the hog; why no scale? Also, considering the size of a "normal" pig, the first hogzilla was not that much bigger at 800 lbs. The picture of the hog with the boy looks like a cross between a wooly mammoth(bottom half) and an elephant (on the side)with the head of a pig. Who ever made the picture was talented to say the least. Lets not get started talking about stamina (boy and the pig). Don't even mention the size of the pig and the woods he was chased in for "three hours"; that must be a badly torn up patch of land!

Sorry Mobic, that's a real photo. I'm just bugged over the three hour "chase". If you hunt, you hunt clean. His daddy had a rifle which could have been used. I do not agree with canned hunts and needlessly having an animal suffer. You shoot, they need to drop. PERIOD!!

I don't know abou the figures as to weight and length but the photograph I believe is misleading. If you look at it carefully it is designed to give the impression that the boy is leaning aganst the hog - but, upon closer examination the boy is actually crossing his arms probably some distance behind the hog to make it look bigger than it is.

This is clearly a hoax to me. In all the photos on the boy's website, none of the people in the pictures are standing parallel or close to or physically touching the pig, why the heck not if this pig is such a big trophy? The illusion would be destroyed once a 1:1 ratio of pig to people is depicted.

I still can't believe after enron, people still fall for things like this.

I agree with TN. While the photos are not doctored, they are set up so that the perspective gives the impression that the hog is larger than it really is. It's obvious from the picture below that the kid is no where near the hog but is well behind it.

The entire 'monsterpig' situation is highly questionable:

1. The images are obviously misleading (thus putting the entire story into question)
2. The details of the story are very dubious. An obviously 'husky' 11 year old chased a hog for hours?
3. Witnessed by many, but not a single testimonial?
4. No official weighing or official measurements for what would be a world record animal?
5. Destruction of the evidence. The meat of the animal was made into sausage, thus an official weighing is impossible.
6. The animal is being mounted, however, it will only be a shoulder mount?!?! So, the dimensions can never be confirmed.
8. The site includes both positive and very nasty negative feedback. A very usual move considering the age of boy.
7. A film on Hogzilla is to be released shortly, and the fact that said film is promoted on the monster pig site is highly questionable.
9. The film site (thelegendofhogzillathemovie.com) and monsterpig.com, while registered by different registration companies, were both registered anonymously, both both registrants reside in Arizona and both domains were created ON THE SAME DAY certainly raises alarms.
10. The fact that the film company issued press releases promoting their casting call - with a $20 cash application fee for would be cast members - on the same day as all this press coverage also raises questions.

It's a standard, if large, Duroc pig shot in a manner to look far larger than it actually is. This is a marketing ploy that has become far more successful than ever anticipated. If it isn't, it is the mother of all coincidences.

Hogzilla, by the way, was proven to be of dimension far lesser than originally reported. The NGS confirmed that the pig was 800 pounds and 7.5 feet long (compared to the hunters claim of 1000 pounds and 12 feet).

One of the problems I have with this story is an 11 year old firing a .50-cal handgun and hitting anything. Back when I was in my early 20s, I tried shooting my uncle

"How would an 11 year old even hold onto the thing."

Breeding.

It may be a big hog, but when you look at the picture of it hanging next to the father and son on their webpage, than again at this main picture, it sure appears that the boy is sitting a distance behind the hog. Proportion wise. Interesting that I can't find any reasonably big pictures to examine either.

This story is depressing and sad. Poor pig. It would never win a beauty contest but there was NO reason to shoot it. Especially something as unique as this creature. It's very sad that someone would do this.

Bottom line: This was a canned hunt on 150 acres of not-so-mythical sized pig.

See >> http://terriermandotcom.blogspot.com/2007/06/how-big-pig.html for what the skull of this hog looks like when sized next to the original photograph of the pig. Photo hoax revealed.

Yeah the same thing was reported by Atlanta Journal-Constitution (http://www.ajc.com/news/content/news/stories/2007/06/01/0601monsterpig.html). This story is not so much an out right hoax as an embellishment. In stead of being a rampaging Erymanthian boar, the dearly departed piggie is more like a really successful 4-H project. But I'm sure he'll be the delight of thousands of people as they eat their Canadian bacon and pinapple pizzas.

It turned out that it was a canned hunt. The original owner of the pig was someone who had considered the pig a pet, but it got too big for him to take care of.

So it wasn't a wild pig at all. The previous owner said it was gentle and used to play with the grandkids.
