The Phantom Dog Poisoner
Dog owners in the town of Basildon are concerned that someone may be trying to poison their pets. They've organized meetings to discuss the danger. Not that any dogs have been poisoned so far. No one has even seen any signs of poison around. But an email rumor has everyone spooked.

Howard, surely you recognize the difference between a case where multiple dogs were poisoned and died (described in the article you linked to) and one where no dogs were injured and no poison was found, and there was no evidence of attempted dog poisoning except a rumor of unknown origin saying some unspecified person would poison dogs.

One is a real crime; the other is apparently mass hysteria.
