The Perfect Woman

Ai Robotics claim to have developed the "Perfect Woman." Her face is shiny and her movements jerky, but she does housework. From perfect-woman.com:

The company AI ROBOTICS was founded 2 years ago by Etienne Fresse and Yoichi Yamato, both robotics specialists working on developing cutting-edge technologies. During the last 3 years the two founders have dedicated all their time and energy to their project “robot woman LISA” which thanks to the support of numerous foreign investors will be presented to the public on June 11 2008. The company’s philosophy is to enhance the conditions of human life and to give as many people as possible access to new technologies. The company AI ROBOTICS is based in Kobe, Japan.

Also:

Lisa can cook you a meal based on what is in the fridge (visual recognition). She can go shopping, do household work or give you a hydraulic massage, but she can also play chess and video games (over 390 are available) and even learn to do certain sports...
We have designed Lisa to be a true companion. She is there to serve you. She dresses herself and recharges herself automatically. You can talk to her about news, travelling, culture and music. Lisa has an IQ of 130. She is even able to satisfy your desires in the bedroom. For this we have cooperated with a renowned sexologist whose expertise has been integrated into Lisa’s configuration.

Check out this video of "Lisa" on YouTube:

I would call Lisa "creepy" rather than "perfect." I would also call her "an actress pretending to be a robot" rather than a "robot."

The absence of google ads on the perfect woman site suggests to me that it's some kind of art project. The site is registered to Etienne Fresse, so he, at least, might be real. (via dvice.com)

The Twilight did this to death

The robot will eventually blow a fuse and kill every one

Or failing that, it'll take over the household and issue orders to the family.

Or (and so on)

The use of some new-but-unheard of acronymed tech (RKS), the touting of the date for the "perfect-woman.com" website - these all smack of viral promo video for some straight-to-cable loser of a flick, or something even less worth waiting for.

As for the model/actress/fembot being creepy, she's not terribly unlike all the pharmaceutical sales reps I work with. They supposedly have pulses.

Sounds a little 'too good to be true' if you ask me. Honda's ASIMO, possibly one of the world's most sophisticated robots, can walk upright and reach out and grab a glass bottle if held in front of it.

The walking, however, took many years and for the glass bottle 'trick' (it's impressive, to say the least) to work it requires precise positioning and some input from a human controller.

It's either a hoax (i.e. viral ad, art project etc.) or your typical, "Well, by 2020 our robot will almost certainly..." marketing hype generated around these 'gynoids'.

They say she's perfect for men, but what if a lesbian wanted one? Would her programming be able to adapt to thatt?

As a career computer programmer, I'll bet even money that there is a bug in the programming - it has a nag function that you won't be able to turn off.

If you are a lesbian, the robot switches over to a new companionship routine:

It immediately moves its 2 Great Danes and 500 stuffed animals into your place, gains 100 lbs and tells you it just wants to cuddle from now on while you watch "The L Word" together.

This is so obviously a fake. If you look on the site, you can click a link that says "Pre-order". When you click on this button, it takes you to a page that says "Book Lisa" (there's a clue right there) where you enter your email, and indicate what style of clothing (can't you change her clothes?) and what color hair. Seems like a lot of men would prefer more choices, e.g. ethnicity, height, build, etc...
Pretty crummy fake, too. There's no mention of price.
If I had to guess, I would say this is viral marketing for an art exhibit or ad agency. I suppose it could also be some "social commentary" a la "Bonsai Kitten".
It should also be noted that there are discrepancies in the website. For example, from the "Company" link:
"The company AI ROBOTICS was founded 2 years ago by Etienne Fresse and Yoichi Yamato, both robotics specialists working on developing cutting-edge technologies. During the last 3 years the two founders have dedicated..."
So they started building this before they had a company, huh?
Also, on the main page, there are some press releases. The oldest one is from 4/04/2008 and the headline is "AI ROBOTICS raises significant funds to realise the Lisa project". So these guys managed to make a working model of what may be the most complex machine in the history of mankind in a matter of weeks?
Also, I checked a Japanese corporate database and found no company by the name of AI Robotics.
I'm gonna have to call shenanigans here.

Oh, even more goodies. Watch the commercial and read the fine print that flashes across the screen at the bottom at the end.

It reads:
"batteries not included" (what did you think it would run on plutonium or baby laughter?
"Non contractual video" (uh huh...)
"Check the conditions on the website" (I did, they're not there.)

And here's the kicker!
"Currently stock available"

So, we can now conclude that this is indeed a fake.

What, nobody else thought "Stepford wives"?
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0073747/ and the even worse remake;
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0327162/
Of course, if you're desperate enough to want a fake mate, there's always Real Doll:(Warning: Really NSFW!) http://www.realdoll.com/

(Believe it or not, I ran across Real Doll googling for A.I.)

Etienne Fresse?

"Fresse" is the present tense of the German verb "fressen," "to eat."
"Fressen" only refers to eating done by animals; people eating "Essen."
So Etienne Fresse means something like "Steve Feeds." Of course, it could also be his real name.

"I, Robot" had a promotional website not unlike this. It looked like a site where you could custom order a
NS-5 complete with choosing eye and cable colors on your order. A friend of mine showed it to me hoping I would fall for it before the movie trailers started hitting TV.

I entered an email address after selecting some options and clicked on what I assumed was the continue button. After waiting for awhile an animation popped up of a woman dancing around a pole. She subsequently "glitched" and some cheesy SFX electricity arced across her chest. The website began to "fall apart" and I was presented with some text and a single option to click. After clicking it I was taken to an ad for the Nivea for men shaving conditioner and a Philips electrical shaver.

This doesn't even come remotely close to real.

Looks fake all right. The best real ones are at truecompanion.com or truecompaniontv.com. They don't cook but can do two or three other motions. They cost $7,000.
