The Great Internet UFO Hoax

Ssshhh! What I am about to tell you is a secret. Do not tell anyone. On Saturday, March 19, many people on the internet will hoax the world with the biggest mass UFO sighting in years. The craft will zoom around the United States and the world. What will they see? A craft with 4 lights, 2 of which blinked several colors. They will then report their sighting as happening at APPROXIMATELY (not exactly) the appropriate time, and that's it.... Report the sighting to the National UFO Reporting center by calling 206-722-3000. Do not post this information online. Only share it with 'real life' friends.

CaptainConfuzion, I still have no idea what you're trying to say. When your mom gets home, have her proof read your next post for clarity.

Lol, you guys pissed of LUE. Yeah the LUE.F.O was an idea from LUE but those fucking fags at negative zero stole it. And I advise you (not a threat warning or whatever, so dont take this so heavy) to take down any personal contact information if it is somewhere around here. LL is infamous for sending enormous amounts of boxes to people they don't like.

Wow, imagine THAT!

He's all pissed off about something, and he didn't even bother to check and see what the hell he's talking about before he freaked. There is no credit for this story on this page, except for the link to the "original".

And the link doesn't even work.

So, he's freaking about whatnow???

(o) <----Look, I stole Yoshi's eye from LUEnatic's post.

Now he's gonna post back with ten trillion eyes, and I'll just DIE!
Posted by Rod  on  Wed Mar 09, 2005  at  04:53 PM
In fact, until LUEnatic stated himself that "negative zero" perpetrated this oh so heinous activty, I had no idea who it was. But hey, a little web search and lookie what I found...

The original site is gone, but here's a link to the cached version (http://66.102.7.104/search?q=cache:5fTGGmbFIWAJ:exopolitics.blogs.com/exopolitics/2005/03/news_alert_blog.html+"negative+zero"+ufo&hl=en&client=firefox-a).

There, Lue, now fuck off or I'll post it everywhere I can, with, of course, your name not attached.

Huh? If these people are for real, it sounds like they need professional help, especially if they are a danger to others. If this is a joke, their sense of humor is worse than mine. Plus, what could the joke possibly be? Who in their right mind (as the saying goes) would spend the time needed to carefully type out those patterns?

Lot's of boxes!?!?!? This is supposed to be scary? How the hell does LL carry out this "horrifying" stunt? Does he use the US mail? FedEX? UPS? Seems like a very large waste of money on LL's part.
Posted by JoeSixpack  on  Wed Mar 09, 2005  at  05:29 PM
And just what the hell is it that LL is so upset about anyway? Having his master plan all over the internet? Maybe he could have just posted his plan on a billboard with instructions for people not to read it unless they're his friends. Looks like LL has only himself to blame. I guess he'll save all that money on postage by sending the boxes to himself.
Posted by JoeSixpack  on  Wed Mar 09, 2005  at  05:33 PM
But hey, if you end up with a ton of boxes (oooooh, scary!), you can always hawk em on ebay as haunted, and get the neighborhood kids to draw all over the inside.
Or give LUE his crayons (you know, the blunted ones) when they let him out for a few hours, and he'll do it himself. From what I've seen, he could use a little artwork practice.

I got this pleading email:

Please take this off of your website. It's supposed to be a secret, and you're one of the several websites that are leaking it. I don't care if you post it on your website after March 19, but take it off now, please.

Also, get the details right. You probably got this from a source that has stolen the credit from LUElinks. LUElinks is an internet message board/community than has formed off of LUE, a message board on gamefaqs.com. I can't reveal a lot about it, because if you aren't a member now, you never can be, and it's useless to explain.

There are a few problems here. Not that I want to spoil anyone's fun, but the hoax had already been leaked and seen by THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE before I even posted anything about it. And by now tens of thousands of people know about it. So it's a little too late to try to keep it a secret.

Also, I can't figure out what these LUE people want. Credit for the failed hoax? or the removal of any mention of the hoax? You can't have both at once. But then again, these are the people who tried to pull off a secret hoax by posting about it on the internet... so maybe they're a little logic challenged.

The damn thing was thought up on LUELinks.
Stupid narcs leaking information and getting other people credit for our shit.
And do you know how annoying getting about 10,000 boxes would be? (By the way, it costs absolutely nothing to send them.)

Since people already know about the damn thing, credit. And LUELinks is a place that not just anyone can view, only the 8000+ people signed up currently can view it. You need a LUEable account on GameFAQs to sign up, and you cannot get one of those anymore. In fact, the only way to actually see anything on there without a narc would be to hack the site. Good luck with doing that.

All we want is credit for the hoax, we're the ones that came up with this idea, not Negative Zero or whatever it is. Credit where credit is due, please.

First of LL didnt waste money getting the boxes we got the for FREE yeah thats right FREE.

and all you non LL users can whine all you want but their are a lot of worse people on the internet that can do a lot worse things then just threaten a person. plus what judge would ever say that it was a real threat not a joke that was on the internet?

I kid said he was going to kill me cuz I said Bush sucks. Did I sue him? No there is a line between reality and the Internet.

actually you are close the US postal service, Fedex and some other companys will send you free boxes, what Luelinks.net will do is fill in the persons contact information on who they want to send the boxes and bam there you go mucho boxes.

really stupid if you ask me, but LUE is known for its stupidity, but of course they are also at war with another Site( http://www.lue2.com ) because they see the site as too inferior to hold the "LUE" name, oh well they want retribution for the narcing of it (stupid if you ask me but whatever)

so just ignore them, thats what I do

Well, I wonder how much better their results would have been if they had just kinda slipped Alex a private email explaining their position and asking for a removal or whatever.
I don't know if he would have done anything, because I know him not, but generally that's a better route to go for stuff like this.
Or you can take the alternative to that and look like a bunch of jerks and tools.

Isn't the biggest part of a hoax not letting anybody know?

Unless you're on gLUE.

I think you should just turn upon each other and rend and tear until mutual death.. What intern?
Posted by Hairy Houdini  on  Wed Mar 09, 2005  at  08:17 PM
Basically, its like this. A LL/LUE(which is a community of 8000+ users) member thought up this plan. They posted it on the private site of LL. This site is closed off to non-"luesers", so it was supposed to stay private. But ofcourse, it didn't. Apparently, one LLer told his non-lueser friend about the plan. The friend sorta stole the guys password so he could see the plan himself, word for word. That friend was the guy who posted it on Neg0.

Somehow, some other sites found out about it. Exopolitics or something. So they posted an article about how Neg0 thought up this hoax. An LLer found the article and then the link back to the Neg0 blog. Some angry LL users, who probably have too much time on their hands, proceeded to find everything they could about this Rashid character. Through the great wonders of the google and people search, they discovered his parents house. They then proceeded to call the house using threatening comments and probably sent many thousands of boxes to them.

Eventually, the exopolitics site credited LL/LUE with the hoax and the Rashid guy apologized, claiming it was just supposed to be for his group of friends in his blog. I found that to be pretty damn stupid. Here we have a private community and then someone goes and steals an account and copies the hoax to a place that is very public. And then when he changed the LL/LUE reference to his own, that was seen as being wrong in itself by LLers.

Me? I just find this all funny and slightly interesting. I agree that some of the members of LL are probably going too far with this, but I can see why they would be upset. It was a pretty good plan... might've actually made some sorta news. But meh... whatever.

Sort of, but not really. It isn't really private anymore. Now LL just wants to keep it quiet. People still want credit for it though.

LL/LUE doesn't really care for the actual hoax, just the news. Hell, some happy its beginning to spread as a hoax to be. Yet others are still going with the what ifs. Still trying to see if anything else can be done.

Whatever... LL/LUE will think of some other way to get in the news... one day. I mean, probably 5000+ unique users... someone on there cared enough to think of something this elaborate. I'm sure there's someone else who would think of something as or even more creative.

And I'll be sitting here, with the popcorn, watching.
Posted by Nai  on  Wed Mar 09, 2005  at  08:42 PM
gonna be kinda anti-climactic, but I'll be watching... Hell, I participated in the Hands Across America stunt, and that was pointless
Posted by Hairy Houdini  on  Wed Mar 09, 2005  at  08:48 PM
If they wanted to keep it quiet, they should have know better than to let all if the information gather in one place so far ahead of time.

Next time, they should just tell everybody on their site that something's in the works, but not say a word about what. Then they should just post the actual info on their site right before "the event" is supposed to start.

That would avoid any chance of a leak, if only a very small group talked about it, and only on the phone. Shit, people, to pull something that big off (and it's actually a hell of an idea) you need to think of all the little crap, or it'll get out too soon every time.

They probably just wanted as many people as possible to see it... also probably wanted to get as many ideas in. And LUE/LL has a short attention span when it comes to mysterious things. So just saying "Wait until X day for a great thing LUE/LL will be able to do" might be overlooked by people looking for entertainment.

And that's all LUE/LL really wants... just some fun. Any threats are definently not serious. Improper grammar use is, 98% of the time, used to have a comical effect. And the boxes thing is just a joke way of trying to scare someone. They will do it, however. But its all in fun... eventually they get bored and move on.

http://www.denverpost.com/Stories/0,1413,36%257E53%257E2715867,00.html

A link to the original story was posted on LL/LUE and some members were outraged(probably because of boredom). I'm sure that it wasn't just LL/LUE that participated, but I wouldn't doubt if the woman was sent a few hundred boxes or called by a few LLers.

Just the kind of thing that would happen when LL/LUE gets bored.

Wow, the museum of hoaxes has just come in contact with the LUE, the secret underground society of the internet, made up only 8000 members who are chosen for being the most 133+ haxors ever... and for the fact that they've been members of GAMEFAQs.com for a while... and if you aren't a member now, you never will be, and noone will explain it to you exactly what it is... and they scare people by sending empty boxes to people... oooh...

Hey, its kinda like that movie The Skulls... I guess, I kinda saw a trailer and decided not to watch it.

Joe, with all due respect, ignorance truly is bliss for you. By all appearances, you know absolutely nothing about LL (LUELINKS FYI). Before you speak, please understand and be aware of the situation and who you are dealing with.

Just a heads up, and quoting Shakespeare makes you feel cool and original, eh?
Posted by JoeSTFU  on  Sat Mar 12, 2005  at  05:55 PM
I really don't think we're expecting anyone to really believe this for long. It doesn't matter, though. It's just for amusement. OF COURSE boxes aren't going to scare anyone. But they're free and the victim will sure be confused when they get two truckloads of cardboard boxes on their lawn. It doesn't mean anything, don't think too hard about it. That should be the Luelinks motto or something

I can only think of one good reason someone would perpetrate a hoax.
That's to discredit an actual event that would take place on the very evening in question.
Govts/individuals know the best way to discredit something is by acknowledging in advance of a 'Real' event taking place and thus describe that a hoax would take place thus everyone who was reporting a 'Real" event would be automatically discredited. In advance certain Institutions/individuals declare a 'Hoax'would be taking place. Many people who would report the real event would not be taken seriously or would not be able to report the event due to huge communication traffic jamming the phone lines.
This unfortuanately won't work because the 'Event' in question will be so Extraordinary Large it will not be able to be contained, discredited nor covered up! Instigators of the hoaxs best be prepared cause sometimes they get more than they bargained for!
