Odd-shaped eggs are surprisingly common. Tails, double yolks, quadruple yolks, conjoined eggs..

It looks like someone stuck a crab leg into it. Besides, if it's had time to get from the animal that layed it to the restaurant...it probably can't be hatched now anyways. And the majority of egg suppliers don't introduce the male, to keep babies from happening.

My family kept chickens & a rooster for the longest time...a friend of mine asked how the eggs got babies...do the chickens lay the egg & then the rooster sits on it?? She was 18 at the time. I had to explain chicken reproduction to her, I just sort of chalked it up to the fact that she was Canadian.

The way I see it is if this egg got from the farm to the restaurant, somebody HAD to have seen it when they picked it. Apparently the person picking it didn't think it was so unusual or THEY would have said something.

Also, a google for " "deformed eggs" chicken" brings up 30 results. So it's not unheard of.

And, just a side note, I wonder if Chef Wang, the egg finder, is the originator of semen-brownies?

I've cracked eggs with double/triple yolks before...even got one that was bloody inside (we didn't eat that one). I figure all the chemicals the birds are fed cause 'acceptable' mutations. If a chicken has 3 legs anyway it just means more dark meat for me right?

In Canada we only have the deadly snow chickens. Almost extinct but they still cause a death once in a while.

Taking into consideration how eggs are gathered, stored, and transported, do you think that nobody anywhere in the distribution process actually noticed the "tail" except the CHEF THAT'S SUPPOSED TO COOK IT?

And considering all that the egg has to go through in transit, how did the tail survive? Publicity opertunity anyone?

so i'm about to leave for classes and i'm eating and that,my friends, is the creepiest friggen' thing i've seen all day (which isn't saying much since i woke up a half hour ago, but still!). i think hatching that thing would be an extremely unwise thing to do. plus, since it's probably been fridged, hatching is probably impossible..... geeze that thing's nasty.

I just found out that "free-range" eggs carry the same risk of salmonella as regular factory farmed eggs.

Katey, if you cook the eggs, the salmonella risk is, well, zero. Same for free-range as for factory, I suppose ....

If you cook the eggs THOROUGHLY. Soft cooked eggs and poached eggs are not cooked enough to kill the salmonella. Neither are some desserts and sauces that use eggs. That's why there are warnings on diner menus now.

Free range just means that 5,000 chickens aren't stuffed into the same bit of space. My mom's cousin has a chicken farm where she worked in the summer...Every morning they would go out, pull out the runts, & smash them against a post to kill them. They would also pull out the chickens that had been trampled or pecked to death in the night. A lot of them had been partly eaten though. Chickens are the worst sort of cannibal. Also, salmonella is not caused by how many chickens are in the same space together, it's caused by bacteria that the animal carries. No matter how many acres you have per chicken, chickens will always have salmonella.

P.S. The Canadians thing was a joke. She was a ditz of the worst kind. We didn't know what else could be the cause, but since none of us had done those things & were not from Canada, we blamed her weirdness on the fact that she was from Canada...we blamed her "Canadianess" when she turned on her car, b/c she had to roll down a manual window.
