SpongeBob Vandalism
Status: Prank
A chimney is all that remains of the cabin that used to be the home of the manager of the Forest Service tree nursery in Pike Forest. It's considered a historically significant remain. That didn't stop pranksters from refashioning it, with the help of some paint, into a monument to SpongeBob Squarepants. From gazette.com:Some people might find humor in a 10-foot tall likeness of the cartoon character SpongeBob Square-Pants painted onto a crumbling chimney in the middle of the woods. U.S. Forest Service officials certainly don't.
"I didn't chuckle," said Al Kane, a Forest Service archaeologist. "I kind of started crying." ...
As for solving the SpongeBob mystery, officials have no leads. Someone took a long time doing it and had the foresight to bring four colors of paint, officials said. It's a short walk from the nearest road. Asked if he had any suspicions about the kind of person who would paint a giant SpongeBob here, Healy said, "I don't know enough about them to know.
"Apparently they are SpongeBob fanatics."

I think the authorities are off on what the Vandals painted.... it looks nothing like Spongebob. Sure it is a face... but not that particular cartoon's face.

Vandalizing historic relics isn't funny.
Paint your own damn chimney, creeps.

"A chimney is all that remains of the cabin that used to be the home of the manager of the Forest Service tree nursery..."
AM I missing something here??? What is the signifigance of this pile of rubble??? Is there something mysteriously special about the position of 'the manager of the Forest Service tree nursery' (it's not like Abe Lincoln slept there at the cabin, or something)??? And what the hell is a Forest Service archaeologist??? How much is THIS stupid-ass government position costing taxpayers each year??? Mister "I kind of started crying" Al Kane sounds to be a bit over-sensitive over such a TRIVIAL prank... He's already got the do-nothing job of a lifetime... He REALLY needs to get a life as well!!!

I see the Virgin Mary in the background there... She's got that look in her eyes like someone goosed her!!!

Thank you Christopher, I was hoping I wasn't the only person that noticed it was something so special they neglected it until nothing but a chimney was left.
Neglect the SpongeBob painting and it will in time pass, too. Plus, I only count 3 colors....

I apologize, but I must admit I like it.

Hey, they consider it historically significant. Just because someone else fails to agree does not give them the right to paint a cartoon face on it. A national park has got to be one of the most inappropriate places for graffiti, however "cute" you might find it.

What is it with vandals and Spongebob Squarepants? Seriously, there are at least two serial Wikipedia vandals who either replaced pages with Spongebob images, or messed with Spongebob pages. Has the meme spread beyond the Internet?

That's Spongebob? Am I mistaken, or isn't he yellow and square and a sponge?
I don't think anyone's painted eyes on it. I think that chimmney's slowly coming to life. Five minutes after that picture was taken, it pulled itself out of the ground, rumbled over to the park ranger, and gobbled him up in one mouthful.
