Snakes In A Theater
Status: False
A story got out on the news wires claiming that a prankster had released two diamondback rattlesnakes in a theater during a showing of Snakes On A Plane. The source of the story appears to have been AMC spokeswoman Melanie Bell, which gave the story some credibility. But now the police are saying that the report isn't true: There is some shred of truth to the story, Phoenix police Sgt. Joel Tranter said. A 10-inch-long rattlesnake was found Friday in a hallway at AMC Desert Ridge 18, near Tatum Boulevard and Loop 101. But it likely slithered inside on its own, Tranter said. A security guard swept the snake outside and held it in a Tupperware container until a member of the Arizona Herpetological Association could take it away. Snake handlers had been called earlier in the day to retrieve a rattler from outside the theater.
Well, it was a good story while it lasted. And incidentally, I haven't yet seen Snakes on a Plane. It's getting decent reviews, but I think I'm going to wait until it comes out on DVD.

Heh, i just saw snakes on a plane the other day, and the friend I was with was like "wouldn't it be funny if someone release snakes in the theater while the movie was playing." Then we saw it last night on the news. I'm actually a little dissapointed it wasn't a hoaxer, though if it were a prank I would hope they would use a non-poisoness breed of snake rather then a rattler.
As for the movie...it was actually pretty good. I mean, it's no gone with the wind, but I was entertained for the entire 2 hours.

i swear my friend and i heard something moving around under our seats during the movie. it was a late showing, so we were the only people in the last few rows and we heard something move in the corner and i thought i heard a "ssss" noise. then i felt something touch my leg. it could just be paranoia though.

A guy here at work from Phoenix says he knows the Desert Ridge theatre. With no surprise from it's name, he said it's a whole mall built where virgin desert used to be 5 years ago, and the theatre is on the edge of it. So, 10m after the pavement stops, it's just 1000 acres of nothing but dirt, rocks and.. rattlers.
He says its the time of year that snakes start searching for food to stock up for winter, so there are always calls about snake home invasions. Given that he says this is common knowledge to anyone living there, he wonders who decided that a 'normal' event spiralled out of control to become newsworthy. I dont have any such wonder. Never let the truth get in the way of a good story.
Given Alex's description above of how taken in he was by it, are you saying it is actually horror and not just all comedy?

You should really go see it in the theater. It just wouldn't be the same at home.

There are a lot of ways one could fool folks into thinking there are snakes in the theater. Rolling a ball of string downhill under the seats, for example, with paper bits tied onto it every yard or so, and then twitching it, would produce fairly convincing snake noises, I think. No need for actual snakes.

Their is at radio station in montreal (CKOI 96.9), you have a bunch of crazy guys call the scanvenger hunt(i don't know if i spell it right), who love to do prangster.
So, last week they ask one of the guy to go in a teather while the movies was on(snake on plane), and go around the room with a snake in is hand.
Which he did, the crowd when while, girl screaming, and they did do so live on radio.
So it is very possible !!!!!
