Santa is an Illegal Immigrant?
According to a new website, Santa Claus is no longer welcome in the town of Hazleton, Pennsylvania. The website, www.nosantaforhazleton.com claims that, in line with the Illegal Immigration Relief Act passed in July, "the town intends to keep Santa out this Christmas because he represents the illegal immigration the town council believes increases crime and burdens local services."

The controversial July laws state that any businesses or landlords who hire or rent rooms to illegal immigrants will face penalties. A lawsuit has been brought against the town regarding this, and is due to be heard in early 2007.

The website discusses why Santa is clearly an undocumented worker, and liable under the ruling:

•Santa is not an American nor is he legally recognized for residency or occupational purposes in this country. Oblivious to this fact, millions of Americans delight in inviting him into their homes and allowing him to work unsupervised every year. Children and the elderly are especially vulnerable to his costume and demeanor.

•Santa does not work alone, but employs hundreds to thousands of elves in what are clearly described as sweatshop or slave labor-type conditions. This takes jobs away from honest and hard-working Americans who play by the rules.

Unsurprisingly, this is a satirical site to draw attention to what many see as an outrageous new law.

(Thanks, Joe.)

The law is the law. Live with it.

Unless the law itself is illegal, or is harmful.

This reminds me of the Arlo Guthrie song from the Vietnam era that goes;

'Santa Claus has a Red suit, he's a Communist,
He's got long hair and a beard, must be a pacifist,
What's in the pipe that he's smoking??

Santa Claus comes down the chimney in the middle of the night,
He must be a dope fiend, to get you up-tight;

Why do police guys mess with peace guys?'

I'm guessing you're a young man, Josh. I hope you remember what you said here if and when the draft is reinstated. Enjoy Baghdad. I hear it's lovely in the Spring.

Doesn't Santa get an exemption every year for the visitor's visa requirements? I seem to remember hearing about that a few years ago. He isn't a resident, nor does he work here; he lives and works at the North Pole, so all he needs is a visitor's visa and a custom's decleration and those were waived annually if I remember right. But, even if this isn't true, how is anyone going to catch him? And who would want to be known as the individual responsible?

I'm not speaking about Santa or legal immigration. Hell, my family were immigrants here about 100 years agos but they came in LEGALLY.
When I said the law is the law, I mwant if it's illegal it's illegal, and that goes for everyone, myself included. And cranky media guy, what the hell does bagdad have to do with illegal immigration in the USA?

Josh, there are some folks who have agendas they like to push whether relevant to the topic at hand or not. CMG's note seems to be in that mode. Don't take it personally. Besides, with a name that includes "Cranky" and "Media Guy" did you expect a happy-go-lucky political middle-of-the-roader?

Cranky Media,
Explain why Josh saying the law is the law should send him to Iraq? What does one have to do with the other? Are you just an idiot who isn't smart enough to make sense or are you trying to get at a point? Please explain.

I have always found santa a security risk.I mean he can fit down chimneys. How many others can?

So under the law he is guilty of tresspass, illegal immigration, theft, imposing terrible work conditions and possibly animal cruelty. If everyone had an attitude that stupid, most things would be inprisoned.I'm glad everyone isn't.Also, what will the children say and think about it?It's like in Hogfather(anyone read it?)where the assasin tells the person there will be no more hogfather(basically santa) and he practically starts crying. They're probably ruining some childs Christmas.Well if it was real, that is.

Well, since he is only in the US for one day each year, he is probably travelling on a tourist visa

THE POINT THIS WEBSITE IS TRYING TO MAKE ISN'T FUNNY. I TAKE THIS SUBJECT VERY SERIOUSLY. HERE IS THE EMAIL I SENT TO THEM.

YOUR INCREDIBLY IGNORANT AND SHORTSIGHTED ATTEMPT AT SATIRE IS FLAWED ON SO MANY LEVELS, IT TRULY DEFIES HUMOR.

UNLIKE THE 20 MILLION OR SO ILLEGAL ALLIENS IN THIS COUNTRY..........

SANTA CLAUSE DOES NOT DRIVE DOWN WAGES BY TAKING JOBS FROM U.S. CITIZENS.

IN FACT, HE'S NOT TAKING ANYBODY'S JOB, NOW IS HE.

SANTA CLAUSE DOES NOT BRING HIS FAMILY WITH HIM.

SANTA CLAUSE DOES NOT EVEN BRING HIS WIFE AND MAKE "ANCHOR BABIES".

SANTA CLAUSE DOES NOT BRING DISEASES, FORMERLY WIPED OUT HERE, INTO THE COUNTRY.

SANTA CLAUSE DOES NOT BRING OTHER COUNTRY'S UNWANTED CRIMINALS INTO THIS COUNTRY.

SANTA CLAUSE DOES NOT USE THE HOSPITAL EMERGENCY ROOM AS HIS PRIMARY CARE PHYSICIAN.

SANTA CLAUSE DOES NOT THINK THAT BECAUSE HE WORKS HERE, HE'S ENTITLED TO FREE FOOD AND HEALTH CARE FROM THE U.S. GOVERNMENT.

AND BEST OF ALL...........AFTER HIS ONE NIGHT OF WORK IN THE U.S. .........HE GOES HOME!

SANTA CLAUSE HAS A PERMANENT, ONE NIGHT A YEAR WORK VISA. WHAT, YOU'VE NEVER SEEN IT?

NOW, IF YOU DON'T THINK ANY OF THESE ISSUES ARE VALID IN YOUR QUAINT LITTLE TOWN, COME VISIT ANY MAJOR METROPOLITAN AREA OF THE SOUTH WESTERN UNITED STATES AND SEE A PREVIEW OF WHAT'S GOING TO HAPPEN TO YOUR FAIR CITY.

I KNOW IT'S UNFORTUNATE THAT LOCAL MUNICIPALITIES MUST ENFORCE LONG STANDING FEDERAL LAWS THAT THE U.S. GOVERNMENT INEXPLICABLY REFUSES TO UPHOLD. I GUESS WE THE PEOPLE ARE JUST SO FED UP AT OUR COUNTRY'S TOTAL INABILITY TO SUPPORT IT'S OWN CITIZENS, WHILE POLITICIANS ON BOTH SIDES TRY TO WIN SOME VOTES. WHO EVER THOUGHT BIG BUSINESS AND BLEEDING HEART LIBERALS WOULD BE IN BED TOGETHER. MEANWHILE WORKING MIDDLE CLASS AMERICANS ARE THE ONES GETTING SCREWED----SO WHAT ELSE IS NEW.

P.S. DID YOU KNOW THAT IN MEXICO (A MAJOR SOURCE OF ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS), FOREIGN BORN NATIONALS ARE TREATED AS "SECOND CLASS" CITIZENS? NO WONDER THE MEXICAN GOVERNMENT DOESN

I think the point CMG was trying to make was, that just because something is legal, doesn't mean it's right. Unjust laws have been passed before and continue to be passed. Unless you are a mindless conformist that leans towards the principles of fascism, you have a duty to protest unjust laws. Not being able to tell the difference between "legal" and "right" puts you about at the intellectual and emotional development age of ten or so.

As Americans, we have a heritage of protesting unjust laws that we should be proud of. Boston Tea Party, heard of it?

Concentration camps were legal in Germany in the 30's. Would anyone care to argue that the Boston Tea Party was wrong, but Dauchau was perfectly legal, and therefore acceptable?

Not that this particularly applies to the immigration law. The law in question goes after the people who exploit illegal aliens, not the poor powerless illegals themselves, and is thus just the kind of step that probably should be taken.

LOL - 38 million illegal aliens, roughly 13% of the US, more than 1 in 10. They work here with, buy things from, and rent homes from US companies. With this in mind, the figures given plus current laws, the entire population is guilty of 'aid, support, transport, shield, harbor illegal aliens.' We indirectly aid and support them by supporting others who help them so we must all go to jail if you go by the book. (Only a few thousand visas are issued to Mexicans each year, not millions, mostly tourist visas, not for work, and only to stinking rich people like drug dealers, the only rich people in Mexico, so there is no legal way for any poor innocent Mexican to come here. It is not a baby's fault it was born in Mexico, and how much hard work did we do to become citizens. NONE! Instead we should stop this madness, open up sweatshops, and get rich quick!)
