Russian Pranks
Status: Pranks
Singapore's Electric New Paper has an article about the burgeoning market for pranks among Russia's nouveau riche. People there are spending tens of thousands of dollars (roubles) to pull elaborate pranks on their friends. Staging fake arrests seems to be a popular gag. There's even a company that will coordinate intricate stunts. Jokes in the company's catalog include:The Robinson Crusoe: "For 20,000 a group of up to five friends are invited on to a yacht and shipwrecked on an island with no food or shelter."
And this one: "Invite friends to a party at an isolated Russian country house or dacha on Moscow's outskirts. After a while the host vanishes, the phone lines are cut and the guests are locked in. For an extra fee, an actor posing as an axe-wielding maniac can break in." Sure, nothing could go wrong there.

"For an extra fee, an actor posing as an axe-wielding maniac can break in"
I would think that "Russia's nouveau riche" are fairly well armed and it's only a matter of time till the axe wielding maniac becomes a blood spurting gun shot victim
ah the rich, gotta love 'em...wait a minute, no you don't

20000 rubles seem rather cheap for marooning five enemies. I think I will start making a list.

Well, there are pranks, and then there are felonious assaults. Guess which category these ideas fit in?
Chuck raises an interesting point, though. From what I hear, many of Russia's "new rich" have machine-gun-toting bodyguards. For that matter, many of them are gangsters themselves. So this is a very dangerious game they're playing.
Let's hope the existence of such "pranks" is a hoax.

Hey what do the American filthy rich do? Not so well planned, but no less stupid. Read any gossip mag.

No, thank you.
