Red Mercury in Sewing Machines
Red Mercury, according to a decades-old rumor, is a key component in the manufacture of nuclear bombs and worth millions of dollars. But now a new variant of the rumor has surfaced in Saudi Arabia, claiming that Red Mercury
can also be used to find treasure and ward off evil spirits (in addition to its nuclear-bomb-making abilities). Plus, old Singer sewing machines are said to contain the substance in trace amounts. As a result, many Saudis are in a frenzy to acquire these old sewing machines, whether by paying tens of thousands of dollars for one, or by stealing one. [BBC News]

Jumping Jesus on a pogo-stick! We've got one of those machines somewhere! Cha-ching!
If you have tens of thousands of dollars to fritter away on a sewing machine (assuming you can get the red mercury out and know how to use it) then you must be rich. As in silly rich. And if you're silly rich you probably don't need to find treasure.

I remember seeing a documentary over a decade ago (wow, I feel old) on trafficking of Red Mercury. They interviewed some law enforcement agent who claimed to have some sitting in vials in his desk drawer. It was some red powdery substance in little crack vials, and the documentary claimed it could be produced with a nuclear reactor and Red Devil house paint.
Sure sounded like BS, but I never really found out if there was any truth to it.

We talking to old cast iron Singers? or not that old? If so shoot me some info on these crazy saudis, I'll hook them up... for a fee of course.

Damn, I've got 3 of the buggers. Shame I'm not physically near the marketplace... (actually, I'm sceptical of the whole story... but...)
