Quick Links: Sheep Rescued from Tree, etc.
Sheep Rescued from Tree
Firemen were called to rescue a sheep, later nicknamed 'Tarzan', from seven metres off the ground.
(Thanks, Gerrit.)
Oldest New World Writing Discovered
A stone slab discovered in Mexico in the 1990s shows the oldest example of New World writing, new evidence suggests.
(Thanks, Dave.)
Pierce Your Ride
As far as I can tell, a non-hoax website selling vehicle piercings. They look pretty cool, and I have to say that, if I drove, I wouldn't mind them on my car...
(Thanks, Big Al.)

okay, the sheep thing: wasn't there some old reference to new world cotton as sheep bushes or some such thing? Like they thought that sheep grew out of the plants or something... The Olmec writings: well, I've deciphered them, and it goes as follows: "For a good time, go to Uggma's hut, and ask for Blarfa, the girl who grows sheep in trees". Pierce your ride: they've had bullet hole decals for autos for years which is kinda the same thing, innit? I once knew a guy who threw a screwdriver at his car out of mechanical frustration, and it stuck in point-first. His wife made him keep it there just so he wouldn't do it again, which made him hate the car even more. People kept telling him: Hey, there's a screwdriver stuck in your car, dude. True story

".....and I have to say that, if I drove.."
Alex, does this mean you don't drive?

Hairy, I've read that when Spanish explorers/conquistadores sent back descriptions of cotton to Europe, books about the new world (in the early 1500s) were illustrated with pictures of sheep growing on plants. By the same token, when the indigenous Mexicans first saw domestic sheep, they referred to them as "cotton deer," i.e. "deer that grow cotton on their backs."

Peter, Alex didn't write that. Check the bottom of the post.

Why are ANY of these articles in the Hoaxes website? They may be news of the odd, but that's about it...

Byron...
Story 1. Could have been a hoax, after all, if someone told me they saw sheep in a tree I'd say they were on crack.
Story 2. Ditto, I don't think I have to mention the various archealogical frauds/hoaxes of recent history.
Story 3. Could be one of the myriad of internet products that one cannot actually buy..though sadly, this probably is something people do to their cars.

If I had a car, I'd want it pierced...
I also want to see photos of the sheep in a tree.
