The bull story isnt really all that dubious.Ive seen pictures of a model cow being lifted up the Heights Of Abraham on a cable car.

Needless to say, you could obtain a real bull (or several "genuine" Lawrence of Arabia compasses) for substantially less money.
This story is much less interesting than the fact that there's a school called Chumuckla Elementary. I want one of their letter jackets.

I don't know what bulls are going for in Prague these days, but in the local (Dallas) paper the other day somebody was advertising registered Longhorn bulls for about $500 each.
It's true though, that prize bulls often sell for much more than $1,000. As with any other animal, the price depends on the (perceived) quality and rarity of the specimen. If you just want a generic bull to hold down your roof, though, you could get a live one for a few hundred dollars or maybe even less.

Really? In the link above even a 'below-average quality' Angus is listed at GBP 2730, while a 'top 1%' Charolais (the priciest listed there) cost GBP 6353...
Still, whatever the cost of real bulls the fibreglass ones cost a mint - this page has the list price of an unpainted Cow Parade cow at EUR 6850 (+VAT at 19.6%)... that's with a bunch of benefits - access to a workshop for decorating the cow, transport, etc. etc. - but even so...!
Incidentally, the world record price (if it hasn't been broken since!) paid for a real bull was GBP 57,750 (roughly USD 93,000 at the exchange rate at the time) in February 2003, paid for the Limousin bull Graham's Samson. The same year, the CowParade Ireland auction saw the sale of a fibreglass cow named Waga-Moo-Moo for 125,000 Euros ($148,000 USD).
Yes, I realize that the bovine in this instance was of a somewhat lesser pedigree; still, it must be admitted there seems to be a bull market* in fibreglass cattle. The world is truly a weird and wonderful place!
*OK, OK, I know that was unforgiveable but I remain bullish - I don't care if anyone's got a beef with my puns, they can winge about it till the cows come home for all I care, I'll not be cowed into submission... OK that's enough, and more than enough.

There's a dairy near where I live that has a whole host of fake cows on its roof, and has done for years.
