The Perfect Moment
image Photographers strive to capture the perfect moment on film, and this comes about as close as any picture I've seen recently. The picture definitely looks real, though I don't know any details about it. When it was taken? Where? etc. (via J-Walk)

Not that this isn't a nice picture, but what does it have to do with hoaxes, hoaxers, or hoaxing?

The kid in the upper left of the big picture is in the process of vomiting, and the oblivious, smiling kid in the thumnail image is about to be covered in it.

If this were real, wouldn't the vomit be blurry because of the movement?

I guess it doesn't have anything directly to do with hoaxes. I thought some people might suspect the photo to be a fake, or staged. But mostly I just thought it was funny.

Heh, I didn't even notice the vomit the first time I glanced at the pic. Could be real. In fact, if it is real, it's one of the more realistic representations of childhood I've seen lately-- on a par with the movie, "Welcome to the Doll House."

The background is sketching me out. It's too blurry, the edges of the people look weird too. But if it was photoshopped, why do a good job on the boy and not on the background?

Obviously a fake! If it was real, then why is the kid "aiming" to his right, and the vomit flowing to the left? That defies both gravity and fluid dynamics!

Reminds me of those photos of mediums where ectoplasm is issuing from their mouths. These photos were genuine - it was the ectoplasm that wasn't. This probably isn't a fake either - just fake vomit. It looks like this kid is eating a pair of tights or something. sick

I'd think if the vomit was "flowing" to the left and his head is turned to the right, he must have been facing forward for the pic, started and then tried to turn his head away in mid-spew so he could puke on the side rather than on someone's head. Effect's easily duplicated by standing in your shower stall with a bowl of water, start pouring, and then turn abruptly.

Don't see what's wrong with the bg either, it looks like one of those standard issue swirly artsy things they stick behind you in professional photos, like grad pics and such.

I take many (1000's) team photos similar to this one, (minus the vomiting). I lean toward the fake side on this. One reason is for the amount of time it took for the vomit to extend this far without no one noticing it. I would think even a 1/2 second, maybe more for the vomit to get as far as it did. One of the other kids would have heard or seen this and reacted to it by turning around and looking for this vomiting action and sound happening before the shutter clicked. Thus this would have been seen in the pic. (some kid turning and looking).
The other thing is most team shots are taken on a medium format system, which will give you tack sharp pictures, even up to 30x40 inches when enlarged on paper. When looking at this image it is of poor quality (graininess). When I shoot these events the kids are wound up and full of energy. They would have moved to see what was going on. They can move fast too! Fast enough to see another kid spew. It is hard enough to get them to sit still.
Another point is if you look at the vomit very closely it does not look like it is of the same film consistancy of the rest of the photo. Meaning it is more three dimensional than the rest of the 2 dimensional pic. This kids face is not even of the same consistancy (texture/graininess/sharpness of the rest of the faces on this pic! (kids face/vomit looks pasted in). (I have worked in the photo business all my life.)
Funny pic though and lots of laughs!!
