Non-Christian Pareidolia
Status: Pareidolia
Alex has posted a lot of stories about pareidolia (seeing things that aren't objectively there). Most of the pareidolism (word?) one sees in America is Christian-related. People tend to see Jesus and/or his Mom all over the place. In the interest of providing equal time to religious hallucinations of a non-Christian nature, I present:
Pareidolia Ganesha

CMG, the link is messed up. I was able to access it by taking off the quotation marks at the beginning and the end of the article and deleting the MoH url at the beginning, but it didn't link automatically.

Fixed it! It was a "smart quotes versus dumb quotes" problem.

...The picture of the flower doesn't really do any good when you have no idea what Lord Ganesh (is anyone else thinking of chocolate?) LOOKS LIKE.

He's the "Elephant Head" god, Maegan.

Outside of the USA, there is a lot of Pareidolia relating to Q'uranic verses, the name of the prophet etc turning up in sliced vegetables (especially aubergines). Islamic pareidolia will be text-based as it is forbidden to make images of the prophet.

In Taiwan a few years ago, one of my Jewish friends from California visiting the island where his son had married a local woman, told me he SAW an image of a teffilin, prayer shawl, on a rock in the Taroko Gorge. He has the photo to prove it, and i looked, and yes, there is an image of a Jewish prayer shawl and tsitis on the rock face of one of the rock canyons on Taiwan's east coast. If anyone wants to see it, email me

Consistent use of the word Pareidolia, since it's a tough word to memorize, is great. But this pic is just a head; the best artwork about Ganesh is that he's a chubby whole body manifestation; and what about the rodent that does his administrative work? (Has any great Hindu artwork upgraded the administrative rodents' tools to a desktop?)
Respectful of Ganesh, and frankly fascinated, since he was featured in an early 60's Trixie Belden mystery.

I just ate a piece of bacon shaped like California. Does that count as non-christian pareidolia?
