Noisy Neighbor Revenge CD

image I have noisy neighbors, so I've often fantasized about a product like this. It's a noisy neighbor revenge CD that plays loud, annoying sounds such as a newborn baby crying, a drill, a domestic squabble, or the phone ringing. Put it in your stereo, point the speakers at the neighbor's house, and have your revenge. A set of earplugs comes with the CD. My neighbors (college-age kids renting the house next door) have been fond of doing things like blasting rap music at midnight, or playing games of wiffleball in their backyard at 3am. I initially tried asking them to shut up, which worked in the short term, but not in the long term because they'd simply be out there doing it again next weekend... or during the week, which was even worse. So now I just call the police whenever they make noise after 10pm. That actually seems to have worked. (via Fun Reports)

i use a CD i obtained as part of a prize package once...its this godawful hillbilly crap (banjoes, singer that sounds like a cat in heat etc.)...drives my bass loving neighbors insane  but it does make them see that not everybody in the neighborhood wants to listen to the same type of music they do.

One of the columnists in the UK 'Metro' newspaper suggested using the 'Crazy Frog' album for that purpose.

They did warn that you run the risk of your neighbours liking it...

And if it's Christmas time and you're feeling especially Grinchy, you could always play "Jingle Cats"...

Buy some huge bass bins and blast low frequency sine waves at them; supposedly you can program people's brains with sounds in the range from 1.5hz to 14hz. From 1.5-4hz you can stimulate the brain's delta waves, which cause sleep; or you can go to the other extreme and fry their mental processes with waves in the 9-14hz range.

Do a search on google for 'brainwave' and 'frequency' and 'delta' and so forth. It's probably nonsense, but you have nothing to lose. Except for the cost of some huge bass bins. And the probable destruction of your house due to vibration.

I used to live in an apartment with noisy neighbors downstairs (loud Country/Western music at 7:00 AM????!!!!). I fantasized about turning two speakers down on the floor, putting a Metallica song on nice and loud in a continuous loop, and taking off for the weekend. Fortunately I was able to buy a home before it ever came to that.

I got one of my neighbors evicted over my constant noise complaints and his refusal to keep his TV from blaring all night (he'd put it on full volume and fall asleep with it on every night). He slashed my tires in retaliation on the way out. Asshole thing to do but it was worth it in the long run to have him out of there.

This idea's been around a long time. Except we used to call them Wayne Newton records.

Daddy don't you walk so fast,
My daughter cried 'Daddy don't you walk so fast.'
She said 'Slow down some,'cause you're making me run'
Daddy don't you walk so fast.

I had a similar problem when I ived in the 'hood (cheap apartment). My bedroom bordered on a parking lot, where a couple big beefy guys *loved* to clean their cars at 6AM ON SATURDAYS, stereo blaring with gangsts rap. One lovely summer day, I set up my cd palyer with an aria from TOSCA, set at full blast. I let it run, they kept shooting disgusted looks in my general apartment direction. When the aria was over, I heard one distinctly say 'some people have the worst manners'.

Why bother, some nice classical music played at concert level through the windows does the trick quite nicely here. My newer speaker system makes it even easier to do. Amazing that you don't really need those huge speakers anymore. Place the subwoofer behind your screen door. A little Bach, a little Beethoven, Stravinski and Handel's Watermusic pretty much shut the Hiphop/Rock'n Roll/Country crowd down around here for the day.

Is it music appreciation, or just pure shock that does this? I don't know as I tend to be genre agnostic and will listen to just about anything. I just don't like it looped continuously.

Metallica just signals that you want them to play their stuff louder. Especially if the competition is Country & Western. Enjoy your own Rock'n Roll at the level you'd like them to play it at between your Classical music sessions.

In university, I moved into the dorm about a week later (and a few years older) than everyone else. After a week of trying to meet my neighbors, and not getting very far, I put Leonard Cohen's "Closing Time" on repeat, at a reasonable volume (but we all know about dorm room walls, right?). I then locked my door, and posted a note saying that I'd be back in about 10-15 minutes.
Amazing how many people I met that night, and all got a laugh out of my technique!

I used to do that when I'd stop at stoplights and someone next to me would have their bass going with their windows rolled down. Everyone needs to hear the overture to "The Phantom of the Opera" at least once. 😛

I used to have a stereo system that picked up cab drivers' radios all the time. I often fantasised about using this effect on noisy people's stereos - something like the CD here but *playing at the noisy morons' through their own speakers*. I wonder - has any electronically-literate person ever tried to do this?

About 15 years ago my downstairs neighbors (2 20ish guys) were drinking and partying all night. Drove me nuts and I didn't sleep well.
Finally about 8AM that (Saturday) morning, while it was still going on, I got out a cassette of a German heavy metal compilation. (I like metal, but this stuff was painful to listen to.) I put my two speakers face-down on the floor so the sound would come through the ceiling, and let it rip while I left for an hour.
When I came back, the cops were taking one guy away in handcuffs. The other guy got evicted shortly thereafter. Turned out that they started fighting right after I left, and I like to think that I helped to drive them over the edge.

Just for something to do one day I built a little radio transmitter, and I soon found out how useful it could be. It only had about a ten meter range, but that was enough. When somebody was playing a radio station too loud, I could drown out the station they were listening to with my own, and suddenly they'd find their radio saying to them, "please turn down my volume!". Or else I'd make an emergency broadcast bulletin, warning of a meteor or whatever heading right for their general area, so they'd run and hide somewhere. Ahh, the joyful days of mis-spent youth.

Why is everything in itialics? It's like we're whispering. Weird, weird, weird...

I love this idea because we have students on both sides who lllove to have parties every weekend. sounds good to me...

two questions: Who do you call when the Police have a noisy party, and why can't Italics have parties? They like that sorta thing...One of my Grandmothers was Italic, and she could party with the best of them. A lot of the Police from her neighborhood were Italic, too...can't we all just get along? Oh, wait...that's three questions...don't mind me- I'm Italic

Accipiter, would a "Mr. Microphone" work the same way, or not enough range?

I heard a story once about hooking up stereo speakers to some sort of signal generator which had a frequency which would make people physically ill, but I suspect it's an urban legend.

My revenge to the apartment neighbors who called the cops on us for loud music during a Saturday night party was to hook my excessively large stereo up to a timer programmed to turn on, stay on for 3 minutes, then shut off for a random amount of time, then turn back on for another 3 minutes...etc. Put in a CD of the beer barrel polka set on a continuous loop, turned it WAY up, then went away for the weekend.
Had a note on our door from the super when we got back letting us know he was starting eviction proceedings. Ah the foolish things we do when young and stupid!!

I live in a condo in Pattaya, Thailand. It is on the 40th and 41st floors and directly below us is a balcony of a neighbor who lives on the 38th & 39th floors. Their balcony juts out beyond the building line and they have installed speakers and bright lights and a jacuzzi. They are, thank heavens, only here occasionally. However, often it is only their young children. As many as 20 or 30 people have loud parties until 3:00AM and 4:00AM. They appear to enjoy the fact that they bother their neighbors as they sit on the balcony looking around to see who is watching them and laugh loudly wheever they see a neighbor looking at them. The mgr. of the building sends security to tell them to turn down the noise and sometimes even the police but it only seems to make things louder. Last night was the worst time of all. I closed my heavy outside doors, put plugs in my ears and turned on white noise but it was like they were inside my condo. There have been times they turn on the outside speakers and go away for hours leaving their particularly obnoxious music playing.

My other neighbors don't like it either but they are on the sides of the condo below while i am directly above and getting the worst of it.

There is a booklet that each owner gets when they buy their condo which says that there should be no noise but there seems to be no teeth in the regulation. To make it worse, I am an elected member of the condo committee and that is of no help whatsoever in handling the situation.

I have decided today that when the next bill for maintenance comes that I am going to refuse to pay it.

If any of you have any suggestions, I would be very pleased to hear them.

Don, I'm not sure what the laws are like in Thailand about nuisance neighbors. If there are laws about noise levels in residential areas, it might be possible to sue them. Otherwise, your only recourse is to lean heavily on the manager of your condo to control them. A letter to the manager signed by a large number of people in the condo will be more effective than a letter from you alone.

Nice to know I am not the only one! I live below an overweight woman and her little boy. Why the renters thought it was a good idea while a single person lives below I have no idea!! they are idiots. Anyway, the witch makes a lot of noise (yet doesn't seem to lose any weight doing this) and seems to be at home most of the day.
I've complained to the place i rent from but they are lame, I am moving here soon but thanks to that advice about calling the cops after 10pm as often as I can I will and will start tonight.
Hell if I have to I will call social services, just to mess with her.

Anyone have any suggestions? I own a condo, and the creatures above me are the most obnoxious. It's come to me having to mount speakers at my ceiling. The noise mostly comes from pounding on the floor, which is my ceiling. It goes on constantly, and rarely stops. The asshole is a renter with a self entitled attitude. For now I blast obnoxious music, sometimes all night and day. Still has not yet helped.

People who savor loud, disgusting, mindless music are in a much lower intellectual bracket. The vast majority of people aren't interested in being forced to have to listen to other peoples blaring music. People brought up without proper manners, usually poorly educated, substance abusers, ocupants of crime infested neighborhoods, etc. How about the lowly maggots that have garage bands?!!!! Thank heavens for most people who exhibit good manners and are respectable upstanding citizens.

Here is how we handle it as militia members,

We use small powered sub sonic bullets and when they awake in the morning and never hearing a thing, their car windowas are history>?, no one is injured, but the cost of replacing car windows and the fear of why no one heard a single shot makes the nigger rap sub woofer go away real fast, these sub sonic ( silent ) bullets can be bought at wal-mart called CB caps.

They have a range of effective power at 100 yards.

Good luck, but in the Army we use sound/noise to destroy everyones minds, i'll be damned if i'll come home to this torture method that the cops say they can do nothing about unless they see it or hear it etc, i know where the ass holes live, turn the fukin shit down!!(;~)

SMILE
p.s., no i haven't resorted to this yet, but the day is coming soon, people and their right to peace and low noise will rise and fight, i'm just telling you how to do it, freedom of speech i fought for, did you fight for it? no? then you loose..

To the guy in Thailand:
I also live in a third world country, and situations like these remind us why they are still third, or fifth, or eightieth world!
The most civil way to deal with this situation is to call the owners of the property and relay these complaints. This is the assertive way to deal with it. Often trashy kids come from trashy parents, and there's a chance they won't give a hoot. If this is the case, you can give all the neighbors the owners' number and tell them that the owners were scandalized about these parties, and that they asked to be called at the first incidence of a disturbance, even at 4 am.
If this doesn't work, it may be legal and feasable to turn of the power to their apartment, and if they whine about it, let them know that this is a petition of all the neighbors. This is the passive-aggressive approach, and really quite benign.
If this is ineffective, revenge is in order. Rude people often only understand rude responses-that's their language. You said they have a jacuzzi? Hmmmm...the possibilities are endless! If you can find some poison ivy or stinging nettle, you can be sure that there won't be any more jacuzzi parties EVER! If you're certain that several people had to sleep over, blast children's music at 7am. They're sure to be hung over, so spill an entire bottle of cheap perfume in front of/under their door.
I have witnessed the effectiveness of a rock thrown through a window. It's creepy and violent, I know, but it worked. I wasn't at the party, nor did I throw the rock, just for the record.
I have a lot of ideas because I have a nearly deaf neighbor downstairs who sleeps with her tv on. Upstairs I have the same situation as you, and on this fine Thursday night/Friday morning, one of the raucus children of the owners has guests and high heels. I'm thinking a stink bomb is in order!
I wish you the best of luck!

I live in an apt building in Beijing, China.
People tend to ignore Property Law and newly enacted Tort Law about noise..

And I have tried hard. NOTHING really worked.
Now, I am going to use ultrasound or even infrasound to HARM those stompers from upstairs to protect my freedom!

I live in a condo and discovered that condo associations like to talk tough about noise by placing statements in the condo rules that noise "will not be tolerated." But in reality, that wording is just there to convince a potential buyer (like me) that the place will be quiet. In fact, condo associations generally have no authority at all to get anyone to stop making noise. You have to go to the cops.
Fortunately, that works both ways... YOU can make noise to bother your neighbors, and if they complain you can strike a deal: I'll turn MY noise down if you turn YOUR noise down.
Most of the methods here might work, but the most important thing to remember is the time of day. Blast the annoying sounds at your neighbors from 6AM to 11AM, for example, when they are trying to sleep off their hangovers. The cops will likely not do anything if you're making noise during those daytime hours, and it really will upset your target neighbors.
for those who make late night noise, I have also found a nice big package of firecrackers tossed on their balcony/patio at 5AM the following morning will generally get their attention.
Lastly, there are downloadable (some free, some for a small price) sound wave generators. With these programs, you can send a sound to your computer speakers and then adjust the sound frequency until you hit just the right reverberation frequency. With a very cheap and modest $60 subwoofer, I can make the walls shake and the windows rattle at just the right frequency. It only takes a minute to slide the sound frequency up and down until you "hit" the sweet spot. You'll know. Everything will vibrate. Use it to accoustically "punch" the walls and floors to wake your neighbors up every 15 or 20 minutes in the morning. Then shut it off and be quiet. They won't know where it's coming from, and neither would the cops. But they might figure out it's retaliation for noise and be a little more quiet next time.

Two words, Liquid Ass, goto their website, i bought $34. worth of liquid ass from them, 7 stream bottles and 2 misters, the misters you spray at the bottom of their door, the hallway air pressure is always flowing into the apartment,4 pumps of spray, and they are dry heaving, the liquid stream lasts for about an hour.again drizzle liquid at base of door, air flow takes it in, you could hear them checking cabinets, bathroom etc, looking for what died ROFL. the mister is instant, 2-4 seconds after spray i could hear em dry heaving ROFL.
