Mock Marijuana
Status: Unusual product
Want some marijuana? Of course, here in America it's illegal to buy the real thing, but you can buy mock marijuana... lifelike marijuana plants made out of silk and wood. It would be a pretty cool conversation piece to have sitting in the corner, especially if the police ever show up unexpectedly. The mock marijuana is sold by New Image Plants, operated by pro-pot activist Joseph White. It's a small business. Most of his customers, ironically, are law-enforcement agencies. But he did just sell $40,000 worth of his plants to the set director of Weeds, a Showtime series about a marijuana-dealing suburbanite soccer mom. White notes that he does have some customers who seem to think he's selling the real stuff, but he notes that: "We cannot be held liable for stupid people smoking our plants."Actually I did once hear that while it's illegal to buy and sell marijuana plants, it's legal to buy the seeds. I thought this was an urban legend (if not, it's a strange loophole in the law), but a quick google search reveals that there are quite a few internet sites offering to sell marijuana seeds. Personally, I'd be very cautious about giving money to these sites (not that I was planning on doing so, mind you). I'd be worried that they would take the money and run.

"...Showtime series about a marijuana-dealing suburbanite soccer mom."
Scraping the bottom of the barrel there, aren't they? Looks like they collected a bunch of random words and picked a few at random: marijuana, soccer mom, suburbanite, series.

When I worked at the Biology laboratory of one of the colleges I attended we had some Marijuana seeds in one of our cabinets. We used them for several labs that required us to grow fungus. Apparently whatever species of fungus we were using really liked growing on mj seeds. We had to be sure to boil the seeds first though so the kids wouldnt try to take them home and grow them after the lab...
Point I am getting at is the seeds are available for purchase from reliable sources, especially if you are a research/teaching laboratory.

There are quite a few sites that will sell you seeds, they're actually pretty reliable (don't ask how I know...). It's illegal to actually grow or possess the plants, but seeds are fine as long as you're not intending to use them.
Until recently it was the law here in the UK that magic mushrooms could also be bought and sold, but not prepared - the packets said things like "for ornamental use only" on them.

Likewise, it's legal to buy opium poppy seeds -- you can find them under the name McCormick's in any grocery store. But it's not legal to grow them.

you can also buy Opium Poppy pods on Ebay- for floral arranging use only, of course....

If you live in the U.S., to my knowledge, it is not legal to buy seeds....the sites that offer them for sale are outside of the U.S. jurisdiction so they can can advertise and sell them but if you live in the U.S. and have them send you seeds you are running a serious risk of an unpleasant encounter with law enforcement.

Yeh Marijuana (Cannabis in the UK) or more popularily known as hemp, is basically Trill (A budgie feed in the UK) It's been de-natured but it will still grow, if you want to smoke lame weed. It's not illegal to sell seeds in the UK, there's a shop in Bristol that sells all you need, lights etc.
Also US bills are made principally of hemp!

ummm, maybe at one point in time U.S. paper currency was made primarily from hemp but no longer. According to the U.S. Treasury Dept. the paper that the BEP uses to produce currency is composed of 75 percent cotton and 25 percent linen.

Well here in Belgium the law is somewhat strange on this matter (as it is in The Netherlands as well). It is forbidden to sell or buy weed, so there are no "coffee-shops" here (we have to drive just over the Dutch border). Actually, it is forbidden to even posess weed, but normally you're left at ease when you caught with less than 3 grams : this is considered a 'personal' amount, and only people in posession of bigger amounts are considered to be (illegal) dealers and will get a fine or be prosecuted. Likewise, it is forbidden to grow weed, but again you will not face any charges when caught with one plant, but you cannot grow more plants.
Sadly, when you're 'caught' with say 2 grams, it is up to the local police to decide what they'll do with you. Oddly enough, it is of great importance to be good friends with the police if you're a marihuana afficionado...
Anyway, I think on-line seed sellers are as reliable as any seller. What's illegal in the US, is quite legal in other parts of the world (in Belgium there are so-called grow shops which sell everything to grow your own weed - they just don't sell weed).

Has anyone ever been to San Francisco? There are a bunch of stores in SF, Oakland, and Berkeley that sell all the pot you could ever want. Yes, you are supposed to have some terminal disease or glaucoma, etc. But that's all a bunch of BS from what I've seen. PPL smoke pot out on the street here in SF. It's just that the vast majority here just choose not to. And no, I haven't smoked pot in over 10 years.

Here in the U.S., laws vary radically from one state to another, but in at least some places it is legal to grow hemp that can't be smoked as a drug.
Marijuana (the smokable weed) and hemp (the plant grown for its fiber for making rope, cloth, or paper) are the same plant species but are different selectively-bred cultivars. From what I've heard and read, the variety grown for fiber has only trace amounts of the drug THC (i.e., not enough to get anyone high), and the strains used to produce drugs don't have very good fiber for rope, etc.
So maybe what you get if you send off for "legal" seeds is seeds for the buzzless, rope-making hemp.

Well here in B.C, it is perfectly legal to buy the seeds, plenty of 'botanic' stores sell them along with everything you need to grow them, lights, hydroponics and whatnot.

The Body Shop does a great line in Hemp products. Their Hemp lip balm is especially nice.
Does anyone read the Fortean Times? Their back pages are full of adverts for cannabis seeds, so i guess it is legal to buy them here.

No thanks, i'll pass this time. Why do you think is illegal? It seems to be inoffensive but it's not. Marijuana make victims and it makes them bad enough for them to attend [url="www.drugrehab.net/program.php

Give me a break...
Cannabis users are regular ,productive members of society not the drug crazed junkie terrorist the U.S Drug Czar claims them to be.
You say it creates victims...
You say users seek treatment...
Your WRONG!!!
It does create victims, but not how you imagine, Every day families are ripped apart and thousands are imprisoned in the USA for simple possession of cannabis.
Since 1932 over 8 Million U.S citizens have been imprisoned for possession alone.
In 2006 nearly 700,000 were imprisoned for simple possession.
THESE ARE YOUR VICTIMS!!!
CANNABIS USERS ARE NON-VIOLENT OFFENDERS NOT CRIMINALS!!!
As for treatment:
YES many cannabis users are in drug treatment BUT not to break free of addiction.
They were offered treatment OR jail time and to remain free they chose to attend out patient treatment instead.
It is BS to use that argument when they are essentially FORCED into a program that blindly addresses a false addiction whilst wasting much needed funding and increasing BOGUS statistics.
WHO ARE YOU to prohibit or condone the use of cannabis.
We live in a society of alcohol, tobacco, oil, war and greed.
Cannabis is the least of our worries.

Well said. I have noticed those who use victims and broken families as evidence to keep mj illegal always use the example of those who abuse or are irrationally jailed. Using that logic, alcohol abuse causes far more problems and has torn apart many more families and caused many more deaths due to liver disease. Lots of big brewing companies making lots of money so forget the plight of the few on that one. If someone has an addictive personality, they will screw themselves with anything. But as has been pointed out, you can't become addicted to mj. A person driving a vehicle under the influence of any mind altering substance should have the book thrown at them. Regulate stupidity, not substances used by rational people. Interesting mj was made illegal in the US because hemp paper competed with paper made from wood and Randolph Hearst (who owned newspapers and had invested heavily in the timber industry) had a problem with that.

There's alot more problems in the world than Marijuana. Legalise it just like alcohol. You can grow a few plants at home if you know how, no different than making home brew is it.
