Unfortunate Last Names

I've always thought my last name was pretty bad. And I mean that in the literal sense. 'Boese' means 'bad' (or angry) in German. But its meaning wouldn't matter much if only English-speaking people could pronounce it (it's 'burr-za', as if it had an 'r' in it... not 'boose'). But I shouldn't feel too sorry for myself, because this guy in Brazil, Mr. Reinhardt Adolfo Fuck, has me beat hands down. As far as I can tell, that really is his name. He must get endless jokes about it.

This subject hits close to home. I am Richard Assmann, but go by Rick, not Dick. In Marine Corps boot camp I was introduced to a hillbilly from Arkansas with the last name Head. He went by Joe. You may also remember the Seinfeld episode or even another Richard Assmann (who goes by Dick) that owns a fgas station in NY state. He was interviewed by David Letterman.

I went to school with a Richard Gay. Only one teacher ever insisted on calling him "Dick Gay."

Also in the same town there was a man running for office regularly named Dick Bangs. The signs were up all over town--shoulda stole one.

I recall going through some records in Portland back in the seventies. I ran across one name in the Eugene, Oregon area. The homeowner's name was Archie Glasscock. Now for the kicker: He lived on Peckerwood Lane. He later moved.

I served in the army with a guy called Chan Kim Fu. As the army always recorded names by surname and initial, guess what: Fu, CK. I was dating and was briefly engaged to a girl called Teresa Ritchie. I think the thought of being known as Teresa Brown was too much for her.

I Have to fix the statement about the Dr's in Richmond, Va. The ones that took my appendix out were Dr Pepple and Dr Blades. Not Peeple. His nurse had an accent so when she answered the phones it sounded like she was saying "Dr Pepper and Dr Blades office"

I went to an all girls private school that had 53 different nationalities in it. Some memorable names include: Pornpan (nicknamed Porn) Thientosapol, Swaroopini Thangaraujah, Lauren Thillaimuthu, and Crystal Glass. There was also some funny teacher names: Anne Friend (A Friend), Andrea Skinner (A Skinner) and there was a health teacher with the surname Carbo. There's a guy who runs a real estate business up at Mt Hotham by the name of Doug McDougle.
