Jesus in the Door
Status: Pareidolia
Ten years ago Wendy Divock felt a touch on her cheek. She thought it was her husband touching her, but when she turned around, he wasn't there. What she saw instead was an image of a face in her closet door. Initially Wendy and her husband called the image the "guy in the door," but after doing some research on the internet they decided that it was Jesus. The pastor across the street assures them that the image is "very significant and that it's authentic."
The Dovicks have created a site, jesusinthedoor.com, to publicize their door. They're selling 8x10 glossy photos of it for $13.50. Whenever you click any link on their site, a pop-up screen alerts you of this. They've also got a creepy animated figure that introduces people to the site.
They don't say if Jesus-in-the-door still "touches" Wendy when her back is turned. (Thanks, Bob)

On this site is a wonderful page with nothing but words supposed to increase the traffic to the page. Among those words is "Jumping Jesus phenomenon". What the hell is that?

Aside from all the other craziness they're claiming, there's one other point. That is clearly George Harrison.

Why does Jesus have a big mustache?
Posted by AussieBruce on Tue Mar 18, 2008 at 07:39 AM
A moustache, glasses, and 70's-style hair. I suppose Jesus likes to keep up with the times?

I remember years and years ago (in the 70's), there was an article in a newspaper about a haunted wardrobe - this woman had an old wardrobe, and ever since she had bought it, creepy things had been happening in the house - and in the grain of the wood of the door, there was an evil face. They had a picture of the wardrobe, and you could quite clearly see a maniacal face in the wood grain - entirely conincidental, I'm sure(although responsible for me having a phobia about grained wood for a few years afterwards). I just mention it cos it's far cooler face-in-the-door story than 'Jesus lives in my wardrobe, disguised as a 70's Beatle'.

Looks like Dame Edna with a mustache to me....

It's a straight-up Rorschach test. It's made from a board that was split, then the two halves put side by side, artificially creating symmetry. Just the same as putting ink on paper then folding it down the middle. Without the board being split just like that, there would be no face. Or is that part of the miracle? Was Jesus guiding the hands of the sawyer at the mill?
Or perhaps is it actually an image of naked lady... or maybe a butterfly?

I agree with crazy ivan. All our closets and doors in the house I grew up in had this. It's wood grain, not the son of god. Mine looked like monsters, but even at the tender age of seven I knew it was just the planed wood halves. Ridiculous. As for unseen things touching this woman, who knows. Ghost? Spider? Dust Mites?

You are all imagining things. That is obviously Jessica Rabbit. See the cleavage and strapless dress?

this is happening so much these days... is it going to become a true part of the christian faith?
i mean the pope gets to create seven new deadly sins, why not have a bit about god blessing houses by planting his image there

If that's who we're looking at, then she needs to trim her bush! It looks like she's got George Harrison's moustache growing down there!!!

The picture here looks like Santana to me.
On the website the Santana look disappears for the most part. But Jesus is still a stretch.

In my previous home there was a bathroom door with the image of Wile E. Coyote on it. I'm still struggling with the religious implications.

And were these marks there BEFORE the lady "saw" the face image? As I understand it, we humans are prone to see a face more than any other single thing if looking at some abstract lines, squiggles or the like.
Hey...I get touched "in my heart" by Jesus every day, but this "door" thing is really too crazy for words.

Anyone else think it looks like Jim Croche?

I see Salvador Dali, with sunglasses on. And he's drunk. Or John Ritter, but he did always look like a drunken Salvador Dali with shades on, anyway. Come and knock on my door

As a woodworker AND a Christian, it is insanity like this that gives Christians a bad rap.
One of the ways woodworkers try to make expensive wood go farther is to use veneer. You simply cut very thin layers of wood then glue it on top of boring or inexpensive wood.
The next step of complexity is called, "bookmatching", where you not only cut thin layers, but you take wood with interesting grain, cut it into two thin layers and lay the layers side-by-side, so that the two sides are mirror images of each other. In other words, the grain of the tree is opened up like a "book," with the pages facing each other, and with wood grain, they "match," hence the term "bookmatching." As many have noted, it is a very common practice and results in some interesting patterns, and has been around practically since woodworking began.
In this case, "Jesus" eyes are knots, where the young tree grew a branch the base of which was captured decades later within the heart of the tree as it grew larger. And it looks like his mustache/beard is probably a point where the tree experienced a trauma, like being bent or broken in storm before recovering.
Funny thing is, the person who got the next door on the production line with the layers above and below either have a cross-eyed Jesus or a guy with his eyes where his ears should be!
