Ghostly face floats near floor

17-year-old Matthew Summers used his mobile phone to take a picture of his sister and some friends as they were preparing to go out. Closer inspection of the photo revealed a ghostly face floating near the floor.

His photo joins a long line of apparently paranormal snaps. The most memorable in recent times was a cloaked figure photographed standing in a doorway at Hampton Court Palace in 2003.
However, Ciaran O'Keeffe, a parapsychologist on Living TV's Most Haunted show, has a more down-to-earth explanation for the "child" in Matthew's photograph.
Dr O'Keeffe said: "As human beings we're very good at finding a pattern in randomness and related to that we're good at finding faces in randomness. The term for this is pareidolia.
"First it was ink blots, then things like clouds in the sky and now mobile phone pictures.
"There is no ghost in this picture, just the coincidental effect of pixelation and darkness and light which combine together."

Sure, it's pareidolia. But it also looks like something was either superimposed on the original picture or smudged the pixels. I'd guess it's an artifact created by the software used to compress the size of the image. (via spluch)

That does NOT look like a photo taken with a phone. That's probably not the focus of the weirdness...but if someone is lying about that, then they are lying about other things.

I think you're being awfully generous to call this "pareidolia." To me it looks more like a deliberate fake.

That they are!!! But as the red-necks are fond o' saying, "F..f..f..fat chicks are t..t..t..tons of fun!!!"

I was on one of those on-line dating sites (PofF). Nowadays women describe this obesity as "About Average" when they describe their "Body Type". When I was a kid, "about average" meant you weren't buff or working out. You just had a non-distinct look to you... I guess they ain't lying when the call obesity "About Average" now... The ones in this picture need to go on a diet, especially that one on the far right that looks like she has an innertube under her shirt.

I think the ghost looks like an afterimage of the face of the person third from the right.

I used to watch Most Haunted all the time. I never realized Ciaran O'Keeffe was a doctor of some sorts. I really only watched it because I thought the old buildings and castles they went to were fascinating... not to mention when Derek Acorah got possessed...

I'm having a moment of prophecy here. Either Jesus' or the Devil's face is going to suddenly appear in a campaign photo or picture sometime in the next ten months. Or both will appear. I won't guess whose campaign will be so decorated but remember, you read it here first.
