Ghost Tree
Status: Pareidolia
"Superstitious village elders have advised onlookers not to make any comments when they pass the tree, reports said. Other enterprising villagers are selling photographs of the face for 2 ringgit (US$0.55)."
Good to see a slightly lower-tech way of making money off it, rather then using eBay...
(Thanks, naiart.)

It's the Virgin Mary. It's not a face, she's pregnant with Jesus and those are her breasts. She seems to be missing her head, but I'm sure it's her. Who else would it be?

It looks like Gumby, dammit.

The ancient gods of Easter Island have returned!

Give it time, picture of this thing will be showing up on eBay.

I think it might be Emperor Palpatine, he gets a bad rap.
I do appreciate the one link that felt the need to add a giant arrow in the picture so I would know where to look to find the face. So much more suggestive in that one.

I also see breasts, saggy ones, off to each side. But then again that may just be a psychosomatic response... because i really really like breasts. Remember those green women from Star Trek? Kirk was always such a lucky bastard...

No one will be laughing when it starts demanding "Feed me Seymour!"
Posted by Lonewatchman on Wed Sep 13, 2006 at 04:50 PM
It's a Sleestak; probably in hibernation. Lookout Will!

I agree with Alex. It's Gumby Dammit. Or it's got bugs under the bark. dammit

are you tryin' to say that my apples ain't what they oughtta be? Oh, no, it's just that we don't like little green worms...or gumbys, dammit. What a world

on third thought, it looks like a giant asparagus, or boobparagus, depending on your outlook. dammit

Looks like a palm tree from the outer space!

Meh it's just John Lennon again.

Wow! A sleestak, that's even a farther reach back in time than the Audry 2 referance. A good one though.
Posted by Lonewatchman on Thu Sep 14, 2006 at 09:30 AM
I don't think it looks very Sleestaky. The eyes sag too much, a Sleestak's are rounder. And their heads are round with a spike on top. The mouth isn't wide enough and the nose slits are missing.
Sorry, I still go with a headless Virgin Mary, in a family way.

Gumby? Sleestak? I feel like I've missed out on so much...am I the only one who's stupid?
Either way, I think it's an interesting comment on the nature of pareidolia that some people see a face and others see breasts...

OK, Google is helpful...not a Sleestak I think, but it could be a very evil Gumby. Maybe one thats been filing its teeth.
Posted by Owen on Thu Sep 14, 2006 at 12:35 PM
"Evil" Gumby? No such thing... a mutally exclusive term, to be sure, like "Military Intelligence"... Evil Pokey, maybe... Evil Blockheads, no doubt, but Evil Gumby? No way, see he was once a little green ball of clay, but you should see the things he does today- he can walk into any book with his Pony Pal Pokey too, if you've got a heart than Gumby's a part of you... Next somebody will say "Evil Davey and Goliath"...damn

Wow, at least in this case the face is really obvious. It's a nice change from the usual blurry spot.

It's the Jolly Green Giant in his vegetative state! Oh yeah, I'm good.
Posted by Name Here on Fri Sep 15, 2006 at 10:02 AM
it's M'Bonga, the evil cursed tree from the 1950s classic turkey "From Hell It Came"! (How bad is it? One critic said "and to hell it can go!")
