Elevator Illusion
Status: Illusion
As someone who's terrified of heights, I would need to be crowbarred into this lift. There's not a chance of me voluntarily travelling in it - it would freak me out too much. Yes, I'm a wuss.
(Thanks, Charybdis.)

I'd love to go in a lift like that.

I'm not really that scared of heights, but I wouldn't go in that thing either.
Posted by AqueousBoy on Wed Oct 04, 2006 at 03:22 PM
I wouldn't go in it either. I have a hard enough time with glass elevators.
Posted by MadCarlotta on Wed Oct 04, 2006 at 03:59 PM
*shudder*
Nope, wouldn't go near it with a twenty foot pole.
Okay, so it's just me, then?

Madmouse, it won't be just you. I'll join ya. I'll sit right in the center(this was again the checkword for this page... I'll use them regularly from now on in any comments I make. They seem to fit)

I'd love to use it - and I am terrified of heights...

Probably wouldn't be too bad once you were in and notice the floor wasn't moving. A lexan or other type of flooring where you could actually see below you would scare the bejeebus out of me.

The proper music for that elevator: I Believe I Can Fly.
Posted by Phred in Maryland on Thu Oct 05, 2006 at 10:12 AM
It's a trick. The elevator really contains a hole. They're just looking for creative ways to murder people.

I don't think it would be that big of a deal...I probably wouldn't walk blindly in, assuming it was an illusion.

It would definitely be disconcerting but I would use it.

it looks too real for me. i think id be testing the floor before i step in.

I looked through the thread at the site and noticed someone mentioned a discrepency in the pictures. Picture #2 shows a different amount of shaft side than the other pictures, suggesting this was Photoshopped. I checked #2 and the other pictures showing the "floor" and noticed it also, the light brown area is considerably larger in #2. This may be a hoax.
Posted by Christopher Cole in Tucson, AZ on Thu Oct 05, 2006 at 05:58 PM
I think the discrepency is due to photo 2 being shot from a higher vantage point looking directly down on the floor as opposed to outside of the elevator as the rest of the pictures are.

Red_Dragon_Girl_69, that wouold be true if it were real; however, being a painting (as claimed) that would make no difference. If it is a painting, angle would make no difference as the painting is flat and no amount of moving would expose more of the "shaft" to be seen.

I'd test too.
There is a book thatI once read whereexactly the opposite happens. An assasin takes a holographic projector and places it under a lift. The victim thinks they're walking into a lift but they're really falling to their death.

Did that happen on Star Trek?

Christopher Cole that makes sence. I didnt think of that, then again, I rarely think.

Red_Dragon_Girl_69, it could be argued that most people do not think very often and everyone, myself included, fails to think occasionally. I used to be very deep into photography many years ago and even though I no longer am, perspective is one of the things I remember.

The "assassin with holographic projector" thing was the plot of the pilot episode of the short-lived 1980s TV series "Probe."
