Disguise Your Doberman As A Poodle
Status: Joke product
Attackchi.org is offering a "Poodle disguise kit for Dobermans" for people who worry that they'll be criticized while out in public for having a dangerous breed of dog. The kit includes: Fake fur pieces (4 leg pieces, one body piece, and head piece), Black face paint (safe for dogs), Safe suit fitting method statement and instructions. However, they warn that "dressing your dog like this will increase the chance of it biting you." They promise that other kits are coming soon, such as "Golden Retriever disguise kit for German Shepherds" and "Old English Sheepdog disguise kit for Mastiffs." (And no, I don't think they're really selling any of these kits.) (Thanks to LaMa for the link)On a related note, check out artist Hung-Chih Peng's Dalmatian disguise for his dog.

This reminds me of an old (19th Century) cartoon I saw where somebody was trying to disguise his dog as a cat. It seems that for a while the French government charged a tax on dogs, but not cats, so some people had mighty funny-looking cats.

Funny, my 1984 book, Slycraft's Catalog of Stuff (http://slycraft.com/CatalogCover.htm) has an item that's pretty much the exact opposite of this, the Dobermask.
The idea was that you put the Dobermask on your small cat or dog and a burglar looking in your window sees what looks like a scary Doberman. The Dobermask was actually featured on the Tonight Show, Good Morning, America and several other TV shows since the book came out.
By the way, that's NOT me on the cover; it's my co-author, Albin Sadar.

Hmm... now, if you were a slightly more cunning than average petty criminal with a dog and a sense of humour, you could disguise your dog, and train it to steal handbags in the park safe in the knowledge that your dog will never be identified in a line-up.

Gary, wookey holes is real.I went there once.
Im not suprised at this idea.The people who buy this just dont want to be persecuted about having a dangerous dog.It is actually a rather effective disguise. I like it.

This was actually started by an Austrailian group in response to heavy breed legislation. They don't really sell the kits, but were trying to make a point about the idiocy of breed legislation.

You shouldn't worry about owning a dangerous dog breed and turn this wasted energy worrying into training your dog. As long as you treat you raise your dog properly then he won't be dangerous.
Get your Doberman socialized from as early an age as possible by meeting lots of different dogs and people. This works best from when he is a puppy.
