Did Steve Fossett fake his death?
Status: Undetermined
That's the latest rumor. The Telegraph reports:Lieutenant Colonel Cynthia Ryan of the US Civil Air Patrol has said Fossett, whose body or plane was never found, could still be alive.
She said: "I've been doing this search and rescue for 14 years. Fossett should have been found.
"It's not like we didn't have our eyes open. We found six other planes while we were looking for him. We're pretty good at what we do."

Some anomalies about his disappearance:
- Only one person saw him take off.
- He took no emergency equipment.
- He flew a plane that was easy to dismantle.

For the record, I did NOT fake my own death.

ROFL! Priceless response.

What would be his motive to fake his death?
Posted by LaMa in Europe on Tue Jul 29, 2008 at 01:17 AM
The motive? He is hiding out somewhere with Madeleine McCann.

"The choice of plane was also a baffling one - a Bellanca Citabria Super Decathlon, which, according to risk assessor Robert Davis said was constructed from a steel and wood frame, but actually covered in fabric, making it easy to dismantle."
Yeah, insurance agents aren't stupid...

I don't care if she has been doing rescues for fifty years, I'd bet even money that Lt. Col. Cynthia Ryan grew up in some eastern seaboard state and has no concept of how big the American West really is. There are planes in the mountains from the Second World War that have only been recently found.

Why is it "baffling" that he would fly in a popular and reliable small aircraft type? Do they expect him to have flown a balloon instead?

Maybe he is playing golf with Elvis on the Bahama's

And it took how many years to find these six planes?

OK, best bet to determine if he is still alive or not - follow the money. If he is alie, how is he living? If he is alive he must have set up some way to have an imcome so hunt through his recent finances and see where all the money went to. If he is alive, some of his money went somewhere so he could draw on it. He might be the resident ghost at some haunted house for example.

Good grief.

This would probably need an serious update, as his plane was found, now years ago...
Wikipedia, Steve Fosset :
On September 29, 2008, a hiker found Fossett's identification cards in the Sierra Nevada Mountains in California, and the crash site was discovered a few days later (on 1 October 2008) 65 miles (100 km) due south from Flying-M Ranch where he took off, and 5.3 miles (8.5 km) due west (282 degrees) of Mammoth Mountain Ski Area's base operations, although his remains were not initially found. On November 3, 2008, tests conducted on two bones recovered about 750 feet (230 m) from the site of the crash produced a match to Fossett's DNA.
