Dead Fairy
Status: Art
This website shows a ‘dead fairy’, along with the story of how it was found in the Derbyshire countryside. It claims that the police and a local ‘paranormal expert’ had examined the fairy, and that the barrow it was found in contained over 20 bodies. The site also features an update posted on April 1st, which explains that no, it is not a real fairy, and that it is a piece of art.
According to one of the people who wrote to us about this story, some people refuse to believe it’s not a real fairy, and are claiming that the artist’s update itself is a hoax.
The fairy is currently up for sale on ebay.
(Thanks, Jen and John.)

There's actually a book which might have inspired the creator called _Lady Cottington's Pressed Fairy Book_ (http://www.amazon.com/Lady-Cottingtons-Pressed-Fairy-Book/dp/0810959429/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/102-5611911-9892150?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1175862932&sr=8-1). It's a cute enough book. Lady Cottington is one of the girls that hoaxed Sir Arthur Conan Doyle with "fairies" about 100 years back.

I have one of the Lady Cottington books - the Pressed Fairy journal.

I went to the talk last night. Very good. I have now held that "dead fairy" in my hands. You can tell that each wing is just a leaf but it is well made. Astonishing that some people are still believing.
Dan Baines said that he had something planned for next year...

well i dont care what you say because I believe in the fairy, and noone can change my mind. I myself, being a strong believer of the 'unknown' have witnessed fairys and santa claus. This is not a hoax, farys, tooth fairys, pixies. You name it, Ive photograpged the magic and serenity surrounding the unknown. Amen

Well, its pretty sad when you have a daughter who loves the fairy books, and has everything fairies in
her room, and she comes home one day with the web address to the site, and says, mom, fairies are real. When I try to explain to her.....she says just go to this website........please.........begging and tears rolling down her face, so I do just that.
Thanks so much for giving me the opportunity to have an obviously much needed talk with my daughter about the internet, and all the lies and junk in the world. It was so sad to see her dreams crushed, but I refuse to let my daughter believe in something that just is not real, and never will be. I myself, didn't believe for a second, not even after seeing the site. So I don't know if she still believes or not, but I need to show her the articles now on Dan Baine confessing to the prank. I would think, Dan, you could come up with more useful stuff to do to fill up your time.
A concerned and upset mother of an 11 yr old.
