Dead Cow Prank
Status: Cruel prank
Neil Steinberg, author of the definitive work on school pranks, advises would-be pranksters in the title of his book that they should, If At All Possible, Involve a CowA dead cow was found hanging by a hoof from a Wichita Falls High School fence post, but police say the incident had nothing to do with the school's upcoming football game against local rival Rider High...
The Wichita Falls Independent School District initially believed the incident was connected to the rivalry between Old High and Rider, which are to play Friday.
"This is the very type of activity and behavior that antagonizes more behavior," spokeswoman Renae Murphy said. "We are disgusted with that whole behavior and that action with the cruelty to the animal."

Dead cows aren't funny. They're just disturbing and cruel.

If At All Possible, Involve A Cow--yet another book we've both read, Alex. I think we were separated at birth!

Huh? "behavior that antagonizes more behavior"? Anyone else thrown by this?
Also: is there any indication that the cow was killed for the prank? Nothing in the article suggests it, and I'd have thought it unlikely - roadkill seems a more probable source of dead animals. So I can't see it as cruel. Disturbing and gross, yes; unpleasant rather than mischievous, likewise. Cruel? No. (Unless we're talking about the emotional impact on the kids who saw it, etc - which is not what Renae Murphy seemed to be objecting to.)

I'm with outeast. Yes, I feel totally "antagonized" by this crazy sentence. When you get hired as a spokesperson by a High School, aren't you supposed to have been to High School yourself? Or perhaps this is the real hoax?

I read that sentence(?) twice trying to see if there was something left out that could have made it intelligent. All I could think of was that she was trying to say that this would invite retalliation. Big deal. At least this cow wasn't processed into hamburgers.
Maybe the cruelty she referred to involved the soul of the cow? Presuming the cow has a soul.
Did anyone else notice that the police say it isn't related to the rivalry and the school district says it is?

"Dead cows aren't funny. They're just disturbing and cruel."
I dunno, I kinda think dead cows are tasty.
At any rate, a dead cow cannot be cruel. What has a dead cow ever done that was cruel?
