Cat Gives Birth To ‘Puppies’
Status: False
imageCassia Aparecida de Souza, a student in the Brazilian city of Passo Fundo, claims that her cat, Mimi, has given birth to three offspring with canine traits, reports say.

Mrs de Souza says that Mimi mated with a neighbour's dog three months ago and, when the cat gave birth, three of the offspring showed canine characteristics and three were normal kittens. The three with cat features died shortly after birth.

A geneticist from the Passo Fundo University will take blood samples to verify that the 'puppies' were part of the litter.

(Thanks, Neo.)

UPDATE: The blood tests show that the cat did not give birth to the 'puppies'.

Gross. It's very possible that mom found those new pups & took them, replacing her own dead/sickly litter. ...It just happened quickly enough that the owner didn't know.

Nice puppies... in the background.

No chance in the world that a dog and a cat could have a litter...either Meagan is right,or it´s simply a hoax.

I'm going with Meagan's explanation on this one. It seems likely, especially since the kittens died.

I agree with perv the elf. Nice puppies she's carrying!

These puppys remind me of the ones i saw in israel, they couldn't be more than 1-3 weeks old.

A female cat is very likely to any species. The likelyhood of canine and feline DNA mixing and producing living results is about as likely as roses growing on a turtle's back

I believe. And the tooth fairy told me last night that she does too. Or was that just the voices in my head again...

I bet the cat's owner is an indigo child.

C'mon!! Where's the update? How long does it take to draw blood & find out if a furball is a DOG?
Posted by Maegan  in  Tampa, FL - USA  on  Sun Nov 19, 2006  at  11:43 AM
This does'nt look hoaxy. The puppens or kippies(I just call them that) were either adopted(this wouldn't be that suprising)or they are just odd kittens. They're fur is actually similar as are several other things. Also they could actually be adoted.......by the woman! This is another likely explanation. So until the test cmes through it's impossible to tell.

Ya perv the elf, those puppies are nice! Only if the picture focused more on them.

I've often heard of mother cats adopting stray kittens, puppies, or even mice into their litter. Their maternal instinct goes into overdrive sometimes. I suppose that something like that would be a possibility, if those aren't just some sort of hugely deformed kittens.

If Klingons and humans can interbreed, why not cats and dogs?

Oh well, it was a nice story while it lasted.

The owner is either ignorant of feline mothering instincts (highly maternal cats will even abduct puppies or another cat's kittens) or thought the story would be a way of raising some extra cash.

I just saw this photo caption on the Reuters news wire:
"Brazilian student Cassia Aparecida de Souza (L) and her friend Gabriela Santos pat puppies that her owners claimed were her own offspring born out of mating with a neighbor's dog, in the southern Brazilian city of Passo Fundo, Rio Grande del Sur state, November 21, 2006. (Edison Vara/Reuters)"

Hmm, in this version the girl herself gave birth to puppies!

Once again, a story has been debunked, yet remains listed here...

See the link above, and is anyone editing this stuff??

The status has been updated now, coit.

I presume you don't mean that hoaxes shouldn't be listed in the Museum of Hoaxes, only that they should be labeled as hoaxes.

Sure, no problem to leave them in with the proper clarification that it was debunked or whatever the case may be....
