Big Dog Needs Home
Status: Fake text, real picture
Adela forwarded me this email, wanting to know if it's real or fake:
Need a dog??????????
An actual ad from Colorado!
FREE to an approved home. Excellent guard dog, loves other small-dog breeds. Answers to the name of Dolly.
Will eat anything, owner cannot afford to feed her anymore, as there are no more thieves, murderers, rapists or molesters left in the neighborhood. Your help will be appreciated...

The text, I assume, is fake. But the picture looks real. That's just a big dog. Looks like a mastiff. I've become more familiar with very big dogs ever since my parents got a 180-pound Great Dane named Falcon. He's so big that every picture we take of him looks photoshopped. Here's a picture of me and Falcon (and my wife on the left) taken over Thanksgiving while visiting my parents. Note how Falcon's head appears to be at least twice the size of my head. That's not a trick of the camera. His head really is twice the size of mine, and I don't have a small head.

Falcon is so gorgeous! I love big dogs, and really, they don't get much bigger than him do they?

I knew a rottweiler who was that big, but no one would believe me (until they saw him). He didn't even look like a Rottweiler, even though he was from some really prestigious AKC bloodline. He was all black (no tan marks) and looked like the Great Goblin from Rankin and Bass's Hobbit.

The first picture looks real, but the second one is obviously photoshopped. Everyone knows repli-Alex's wife doesn't really exist.

Man, that's going to be news to her.
... Alex may be a little disappointed to find this out, too.

Which one is the dog,
And which one is the sofa?
The one that drools is the dog.

"...loves other small-dog breeds." OTHER small-dog breeds!? What the hell is a big dog breed?

Umm.. Is it me or aren't some of these haiku incorrect?
Big Gary's haiku
Last line's seven syllables
Instead of normal five
Stork's haiku is wrong
All the lines are five syllables
Not five-seven-five

Picky people gripe.
Rule is seventeen total.
Stork's haiku is fine.
Here there is no need to war.
Spirit comes before the form.

Nope, sorry, my feeble attempt at haiku resuts in only 13 syllables, and at a real stretch of maybe old English pronunciation, possibly 15, as in 5-5-5. I read it 5-4-4, which would be in accordance with the edicts of Emperor Han II, Chu Dynasty, around 1534, in allowing the 5-3-5, the 5-3-4, and even the 5-4-4 metre into the haiku formula. This in order to consolidate his kingdom, incorporating the less-literate citizens thereof into the fold. (And if you belive that, you're a lot dumber than you look, but it makes for a good story, doesn't it?)

The photo's not a FAKE. The dog is normal sized and the girl is a midget. Next, please...
PS- Alex, I didn't know you were a midget, too...

I knew it!Now for my haiku.
Big dog needs new home
Only one problem with it
Takes up lots of space
Oh and the haiku are actually very good, just are not the correct syllable number.
Also, please criticise my haiku wherever it is.

The dog in the first photo is not a mastiff it is an African Boerboel, I have one of my own at home. Boerboels are big dogs but that photo looks like they stretched Dolly to look fatter then she really is, so I think it is a fake.

they are midgets and they suck! what the hell is a big dog breed?
Posted by nimrod in sparta wis on Mon Feb 11, 2008 at 04:05 PM
well, i have seen huge dogs, but im a tad iffy on the mastiff. it does seem that dolly was stretched out, but i dont really know.
Posted by jordan in texas on Sat Aug 02, 2008 at 05:46 PM
I Beleive that both dogs are real. My Aunt has a big Luten and his head is twice the size of mine. Personaly, I would never take the Mastiff home. I absolutely love big dogs but if he is the way i imagine him, he needs alot more land than I have.

So both those dogs are big, but how did you make the Great Dane hover in mid air ? Hovering breed ?
