Aliens Made Me Do It

The BBC reports that the staff of the Northumbria Safety Camera Partnership have come up with the 10 stupidest excuses drivers have come up with to explain why they were speeding. Number one is: "I passed out after seeing UFOs." Not only stupid, but illogical (unless you passed out and somehow jammed your foot on the accelerator). A few of the other excuses are:

  • A jet over-head, not me, triggered the camera

  • I had a severe bout of diarrhoea

  • A gust of wind pushed me over the limit

  • I had to rush my dying hamster to the vet's.

I don't see anything stupid about the last one. Nobody would question it if you were rushing a critically ill person to the hospital. The same reasoning applies when your pet is very sick, in my opinion.

Yeah, if you don't actually have the patient in the car when they stop you, you'll have a lot of explaining to do.

My husband got pulled over 3 times the night of our first date. Twice on his way home from work & once on the way to my house. He explained to the cop that tonite was supposed to be his first date with the girl he was going to marry. The same story worked all 3 times. (He didn't tell me about this until we got engaged.)
