Alien Baby Found In Attic
Status: Undetermined
The Guardian reports that screenwriter Barney Broom has discovered a baby alien in his attic, "stored in an old toffee jar wrapped in a copy of the Daily Mirror dating from October 1947." The alien (or rather, model of an alien) resembles the aliens depicted in the alien autopsy movies and appears to be sculpted out of clay. It has a serial number on its foot. Speculation has commenced about what this alien baby might be. Was it something created by the US airforce back in 1947? Broom does live close to some US bases, so maybe a US servicemen renting the cottage left the model up in the attic by accident. Or is it a film prop from the 1960s? Or is it a recently created hoax? Whatever it turns out to be, the case bears a striking similarity to the discovery of a pickled dragon in an Oxfordshire garage that occurred back in early 2004. The dragon turned out to be of recent manufacture, and its discovery was a stunt to help promote an author's book. Given that we're once again dealing with a writer discovering a mysterious pickled creature, the question to ask is, Does Barney Broom have a book coming out soon, and does it have anything to do with extraterrestrials?
Update: The BBC also has an article about the alien baby, with more pictures of it, including a close-up of the serial number on its foot. They note that the Pentagon is dismissing the model as a hoax. I also find it interesting that the first thing Barney Broom did with the model was take it to the Sci-Fi Channel. In my mind, this increases the likelihood that it's a hoax.
Update 2:
Captain DaFt has sent in a picture of his alien lamp, which, I suppose, bears a vague resemblance to the alien in the attic, in the sense that it's also a small alien preserved in liquid. He writes: "Here's the picture of my alien lamp I promised in response to the "Alien found in attic" story. Unfortunately; Spencer's doesn't seem to sell them anymore. (Nor the dinosaur fetus lamps either.)" Personally, I would definitely pay good money to own a dinosaur fetus lamp.

When I was in the military we used to take above-top-secret stuff home and forget about it all the time. In fact there is some lucky guy right now in California with a Bigfoot in a chest freezer hidden under his deck. Sometimes when you have too much to drink you forget to account for all your paranormal war trophies.

This looks very much like the X Files prop that was for sale in the mid 90s after the movie came out. The alien was in a large jar of greenish fluid. It would be simple enough to remove the alien from the jar and put it into something else and refill the jar with some other fluid. I find this to be a bad joke and nothing more.

Correction, Beasjt, thet means that there is something tangible inside an exsisting jar, but that means nothing. If I found an Alien I would totally bring ot to the sci-fi channel guys! They's know for sure if it was a hoax or not. Or I'd call it a haunted alien and sell it on eBay.

I only said there was something real inside, not that it is a real alien ;P
I simply used "wording" in a manner that you could indeed read that I implied it was a real alien. A bit like those who claim it is real.

Well first of all, the object in question definitely seems to be real...meaning, the image above hasn't been photo-shopped.
It was allegedly discovered "stored in an old toffee jar wrapped in a copy of the Daily Mirror dating from October 1947".
Nobody's denying that the 'alien' is anything other than a model (despite what some people seem to think). The interesting question is whether or not it was actually made in 1947 (an, obviously, evocative date in UFO lore).
The paper could simply have been chosen, by the 'hoaxer', because of the date's significance...as seems the most likely explanation to me. If it actually IS from 1947, however, then it is a VERY interesting item, despite the fact that it's clearly NOT a real alien. Why? Because 'greys' (the currently dominant alien icons) only began to be described/depicted in the mid 1960s (as far as I know).

Oh, by the way...the owner of the house isn't a writer, he's a film-maker. So it's possible this is a stunt to publicise a forthcoming film/documentary.
Interestingly, according to his own website, he "has written and directed numerous films for the Ministry of Defence". Make of that what you will...

im only 14 years old but i remember that i saw something like this when i was like 8 years old
