A minor change
Status: Miscellaneous
Sorry if I caused anyone vertigo. I decided to move the sidebar over to the left side of screen since, visually, I think it makes more sense to have it lined up beneath the museum banner. Nothing else has changed. It should only take a few moments to regain your bearings.
Update: Ignore what I said above.

Hmm... I don't like it, but maybe that's partly because of the small font size for the introduction? The weighting looks wrong... Also, the fact that the Google ads are in a larger font than the introduction means that ads such as 'Creation Science: You Now Can Prove Creation!' end up being among the most noticeable things on the page.

Arrghhh - right is now left! Now I'll be confused all day, and drive home on the wrong side of the road.
Apart from that - I'll get used to it.

Remember, folks: right is the new left!

Maybe it's because "right" is my dominant side, but now my eye is immediately drawn to the seemingly gigantic and random Google ad. This time around I'm plagued by the nagging question of "WHEN WILL YOU DIE?"

If you like to have a favorites panel open, and you have your resolution set at 1024x768, like me, you now have to scroll to the right to actually read the page. Irritating, but I guess not as irritating as having sand in your underwear so I guess I'll live.

I had to double check the web address to make sure I wasn't on a phishing site
Posted by Oppiejoe in Haslett on Thu Feb 21, 2008 at 11:15 AM
I don't like it. My browser window is small and I have to move the scroll bar to the right everytime I open a new page.
Posted by KSho on Thu Feb 21, 2008 at 12:35 PM
Terrible. Just terrible. The move throws off the balance of the page and makes it harder for me to read.
Posted by Mike in Detroit on Thu Feb 21, 2008 at 12:42 PM
...I'm just wondering why you didn't move the banner?
It's a little odd to come into the page & the very first thing you see is ads. If you're reading from left to right...you will automatically look left first.

No Sir, I don't like it.

I think it makes the ads too prominent in relation to the rest of the page, I think for the reason that Maegan mentioned.
Posted by Madmouse in Edinburgh on Thu Feb 21, 2008 at 05:07 PM
It's like one of those awful optical illusions where things appear smaller because of the alignment but no sizes have actually changed...
...The ads seem so massive on the left...
Change it back!

Change it back!
This has been happening at a lot of sites that I visit lately. If it's on the right, it's been moved to the left, if it's on the left, it's been moved to the right.
Seriously, what's up with this? Web owners getting bored looking at the same-o same-o and making a minor change to ease the monotony? Or are the advertisers pushing for it to get habituated eyeballs back on the ads?
Either way, makes no never mind to me. Like I said, some sites have it one way, some another, and My eye is trained to go to the big blocks of text, not the ads.

Nooo. Why did you do that? I didn't really like the changes since the old Museum look, but I was just starting to get used to it.
People who read English read from left to right, so that means when you look at a photograph or a webpage, the first thing their eyes are going to is the left side of the page. You want to put your actual site stuff there, so people will look at it. Now it's just an eyesore. I don't like this at all. The page feels like everything is crammed into the right, like there's not enough space or something. If they were a skinny, unobtrusive ad I could understand. But it's huge and fat and ugly, and I don't think I'll get used to it. D: Go look at some other blogs, I've never seen one with a style like this before.

You've redecorated in here, haven't you? Hmm. I don't like it.

hand me a pitchfork, you hold the torch, and we're off to the MOH. Would somebody let the rabble off the leash, please? Thank you grrr

Add me as one more who doesn't care for the change. If you're committed to sticking with the column on the left like this, perhaps it would help to shrink its width by about 20%. Just a thought.
Posted by Jeff on Fri Feb 22, 2008 at 12:15 PM
Glad to see I'm not the only one who doesn't like the change. And for the same reasons mentioned above. Before, if I thought an ad might be interesting I would scroll over and look at it. Now I have to scroll over to see the entries and I can't ignore even the ads I have already decided to not pay attention to.

Hmm,,,,purpose of ads = to get noticed. Nice work Alex.
