About the Museum
The Museum of Hoaxes is dedicated to promoting knowledge about hoaxes. (Click here for opening hours, etc.) On our blog we post about dubious- sounding claims, and whatever else strikes our fancy. The site is also home to the Hoaxipedia (the museum's online encyclopedia of hoaxes), the Hoax Forum, and the Top 100 April Fools' Day Hoaxes.

The museum was created in 1997 by Alex Boese. He's assisted by a staff of deputy curators and docents. Alex is the author of three books, most recently Elephants on Acid: And Other Bizarre Experiments (which has nothing to do with hoaxes). Hotdog and Bun Mismatch
Currently buns are sold in packages of 10 but hotdogs come in packages of 8. Thus, it is impossible to perfectly match the number of hotdogs to the number of buns without buying 4 packs of buns and 5 packs of hotdogs.

Circumcision is sexual abuse, torture and mutilation
Any man that was circumcised is due reparations for the lost sexual functioning he inevitably suffered since circumcision removes the most sensitive part of the penis.

Did anyone else notice the hotdogs vs. bun case is straight out of the Father of the Bride movie. In fact, the dad (Steve Martin?) goes to jail because of his outburst on this matter.

As hard as it is for people to believe, this is not the most litigious time in the history of our country. In the colonial and early national periods, people sued each other with great frequency. They did not try to solve their problems face to face, they left it up to a court to decide all differences. Of course, they didn't often use lawyers to do this, representing themselves most of the time.

How much money for the foreskins? Do the money pay more if there is more foreskin? More money for each inch? Or it it for the thickness or patterns, or ribbed for her pleasure? I just want to know these things, in case I decide to sell my collection. Just add the water. Hah, ha, ha I am too sorry, no thing is funny about the foreskins, if they are separated or on the vine, they are not funny. They are at Chrismas, and you know what I mean! The forced sexual cutting of children is a horror unique to certain parts of Africa, Asia-- and the United States. The “circumcision hoax” came to the United States 100 years ago as an attempt to stop masturbation. Over the years, circumcisers have claimed to “cure” a multitude of ailments, ranging from epilepsy to scoliosis to AIDS. The same “reasons” are given in Africa and Asia for continuing this sex ritual on little boys and girls. America is alone in developed nations in continuing to buy the snake oil that is circumcision.

Men and women who have been sexually mutilated deserve to have their pain recognized and their torturers brought to justice. At present in the US, that often means seeking monetary compensation—only because despite the fact that there are criminal laws to protect children from sexual harm, these laws are not enforced when it comes to the forced sexual cutting of little boys. In the past, lawsuits have been filed against individual circumcisers; it's high time for this class-action suit. We should applaud the strength of these victims of forced sexual cutting, and their bravery for being willing to come forward and demand justice, paving the way for a safer future for our children. We should not minimize the suffering of victims of sexual mutilation, or deny them the only form of justice currently available to them in the US.

There are campaigns against forced male genital mutilation (e.g. http://www.norm-uk.org). Probably the only reason they have never become significant is that the practice obviously has a major religious and ethnic dimension.

...why have my last two posts mentioned circumcision? Any psychiatrists reading this?

The disciplinary committees for each state bar will be very interested in seeing which attorneys are signing up for this scheme. Attorneys soliciting people to file lawsuits is a violation of professional ethics in every state I know of.

The hot dog and bun thing is stupid.

Buns are not sold in packs of 10, at least not always. My wife picked up a 6-pack of buns the other day and I have seen 8, 12, 16, etc. And dogs don't always come in 8-packs either.

I haven't seen odd bun & hotdog pairings in I don't know how many years. Obviously the companies hooked up & decided to make it easy. You can get hotdogs in bulk...I have seen as many as 40 per package. BUT, the buns, even in bulk, are seperated into 8 bun packages.

I watched a video that mentioned circumcision as a sex crime against an infant. But then I met a guy who was circumcised as an adult...he said he wished it had been done when he was an infant so he didn't have to remember dealing with the healing process...but he preferred being circumcised to not. He was 40 when he got it done.

when I was a young lycanthropic lad, I formally requested to my parents that they return my stolen foreskin to me. Sorry, they said, it was currently being used as an infield rain cover at Yankee Stadium. Considering that The House That Ruth Built (and kept dry with my foreskin) is due to be replaced before next season, I wonder if there's hope that I may be returned my precious? Oh, and kids, they're building the new stadium now, so watch your goodies, okay? Ow

I was circumcised not long after I was born at Kaiser hospital in Southern California. I am scared for life and cannot even enjoy sex knowing that a doctor butchered off the most sensitive part of my penis. Infant circumcision is sexual abuse, torture, and multilation and has ruined my life. The doctors did not inform my parents the foreskins functions. Why didn't I have a choice about my body? This was a voilation of my human rights and I deserve compensation.
