Monster Crocodile in New Orleans
Michael Maffei sent me some giant crocodile pictures that have begun doing the rounds. They're accompanied by this caption:
Now this is a Crocodile !
This crocodile was found in New Orleans swimming down the street. 21 FT long, 4,500 lbs, around 80 years old minimum. Specialists said that he was looking to eat humans because he was too old to catch animals. This crocodile was killed by the army last Sunday at 3:00 pm, currently he is in the freezer at the Azur hotel. The contents of it's stomach will be analyzed this Friday at 2:30pm.
The pictures are real enough, but they're weren't taken in New Orleans. These are pictures of the
Monster Crocodile of Pointe-Noire (in the Republic of the Congo). They've been circulating for over two years. David Emery notes that the crocodile was really estimated to be 16 feet long and weighed about 1874 lbs. That's still a lot bigger than I'd ever care to encounter.

first of all no person in their right mind that lived in new orleans would even try to catch an alligator let alone a crocodile. second as someone pointed out it is not in new orlenas because of the licsence plate. third there is no hotel named azur in new orleans. and lastly who would beleive by even looking at the picture that the croc weighed 4,500 pounds because elephants weigh over two tons and that thing comes no where close.

What is the difference between an alligator and a crocodile. An alligator is a specific species (or two if you count the chinese alligator) and a crocodile is any memeber of a whole genus. An alligator is a crocodile.

Well, I guess that Redd got a good point about the weight, But the middleweight of an elephant is around 3-5 tons, but I know what you mean, althought this is a huge croc they got there there's simply no possebility for it to weigh that much. And the origin of this specimen? Well i guess it heritage is not America, more likely Africa or Australia, I think the that this is a Nile Crocodile but I'm not to sure about it.

Now I may not be some sort of crocodile expert but I am smart enough to know THERE ARE NO CROCODILES IN LOUISIANA only alligators and I know this because I have grown up in New Orleans all my life and I have never heard of a crocodile in Louisiana.Second of all there is no Azur hotel in Louisiana.Sure,a crocodile could get flushed down the toilet but to hide out for eighty years undetected ? Not likely, besides since it would be so big it would require a major food source in which case fishermen would notice a BIG dent in the fish population and a lot of gators would be going hungry or adding to its food source so a lot would be disappearing so let me put it loud and clear, THIS IS A HOAX.
