RYT Hospital
The
RYT Hospital-Dwayne Medical Center has been on the forefront of recent medical advances. They've developed a transgenic mouse with the cognitive abilities of a human. They've helped a man give birth. They've even developed nano-robots to deliver gene therapies and repair tissue. Pretty amazing stuff. And they've got a very slick website. Too bad none of it is real. (Thanks to Ross Harvey for the link).

Thanks for saving me from being suckered. I wrote a piece on genetic engineering for my Maine Public Radio program, then discovered the RYT people were already doing it. Suspicious, I then found your page. The humble Farmer

What do you think about genetic engineering? Is it a good thing or is this DNA and genes thing something that human beings shouldn‰Ûªt mess with?
You might agree that we all have our weakest link, and even if we live to be 100, that weakest link is going to be the factor that will sooner or later bring us to our knees. I haven‰Ûªt read up on it, but I think that every body is built of little building blocks and every body is no stronger than the weakest link. Every body is also different. I don‰Ûªt think that two are the same. Some bodies will break down when they are 30 years old. Some bodies will fail at 40, some at 50. Some will fail because of intrinsic flaws. Others will fail sooner than they were programmed to fail because of environmental factors, like smog, constant exposure to bad mold or powder from copy machines. Cigarette smoke and asbestos are now known to chop years off an expected life span. I just learned that Ernest Crie, a man whom I liked and admired ever since I met him over 50 years ago, just died at the age of 100. He smoked a pipe every day for probably 85 years and I can‰Ûªt help but wonder how long he might have lived if he hadn‰Ûªt. You‰Ûªd have to look a long while to find body building blocks as good as the ones inherited by Ernest Crie.
Suppose your husband wakes up in the middle of the night. His arm hurts. He eats aspirin. He eats Advil. He applies hot pads and cold packs. The pain finally somewhat abates so he is able to get back to sleep. This goes on night after night and there is only one way to get away from it because he is afflicted with a rare neurological muscular disorder for which there is no cure. Suppose gurus in human chemistry had spotted that weak gene just by comparing the collective DNA of his potential parents, and had said to them, ‰ÛÏHey kids, unless we step in here and replace one little snippet of DNA, in 50 years or so your son is programmed to get very sick.‰Û
You might think that genetic engineering is a bad thing. Or you might think it is something that will someday alleviate some unnecessary human suffering. I don‰Ûªt know if it‰Ûªs good or bad. But how about the woman who is roused out at 2 AM every morning by her husband‰Ûªs moaning, and gets up to fetch cold packs for his arm. Had she been on the ethics board would she have voted to snip out that weak gene, and replace it with one that would offer them another 30 years of good night‰Ûªs sleep? I‰Ûªm

After writing this genetic engineering rant, thinking that it was something that they might do in 10 or 20 years, I went on line and found that they are already doing it:

Yes i figure that out when i was searching though the interent saw a pregnat man and no location of the hospital.I want to know why some people would go though so much trouble to make something that is not real to make people believe it is real.I find it apauling and against the lord. You people are sick basturds.

I assume that's directed towards the people who are actually responsible for the hoax, as opposed to the people who are reporting on it, or discussing it...

And verily did the Lord sayeth unto Abraham, "Thou shalt not maketh unto the Internet a false web page."
And Abraham wept for his sins.

I have used this terrrific spoof site for over two years now as I teach college freshman about science and pseudoscience, and how to tell the difference. RYT Hospital has provoked wonderful discussions in my classes. Thanks folks!
[It is scary how gullible some students are at 18. A favorite example is the nubmer that believe any site whose url ends in .gov or .edu is believable. After discussion and practice they become much more aware and skeptical.]

I''m not suprised that all these responses are written by women. The concept of a man giving birth, would comprimise affirmative action, and collapse many institutions specifically for women, at a loss of billions in aid. In addition, the world would be better off without that gender who is most responsible for the majority of the wars, death of nations, and the spreading of uncontrolloable diseases. Personally i like women, as long as they are dsabled. Disabled women are suprisingly compassionate, friendly,
and nurturing to mostly everybody, whereas fully functional women only show those attributes to their imediate family and cicle of friends. Everyone else can suck eggs. If this country ever comes under attack from a foriegn nation, will the women fight? Will they expect the men, they have been stomping on, to fight for them? I guess, i'd pick up the standard on your behalf, as long as you pay me $500. per day. In advance.

"The concept of a man giving birth would compromise affirmative action"? You mean you think the only reason men aren't able to give birth is because of some kind of plot, James? And do you really mean that you've never met a non-disabled woman who was nice to you?
I don't believe it. There are nice people in this world (and lots of jerks, too), and some of them are female and some of them are male. Those are the facts.
If this post accurately reflect your sentiments and isn't your idea of a joke, you need some help. I am serious. I'm being compassionate, believe it or not. It's not healthy to feel that much hostility toward half of the human race.

I think it would be a good idea for everyone to consider commone sense and gut reactions before getting so wrapped up in things that you don't even make sense. I am speking to those who claim to have found the address, etc.etc. PLEASE!! If this was for real then I would expect no less than for it to be breaking headline news with its male pregnancy. I mean come on, seriuously... I can even believe that there is a debate about this. Let's not forget that a teacher who has used this hoax website in his classroom for 2+ years already is sure that it is fake. How many students do you think have already challenged and discussed this with him and brought out every possible explanation as to why it was real? Common sense is a thing of the past I suppose.

i thought it was a real hospital at fist but then i started thinking that the government couldnt possibly allow a hospital to mess around with getting a guy pregnant cus i remember hearing that its illegal to clone embryos and impregnate women with them cus its unethical and stuff, so if thats not allowed then this probably isnt either. so then, i started thinking maybe this hospital is in canada, they probably let them do this kinda stuff, but i couldnt find any address for this hospital on its website. then i found this website and noticed that some of the messages here were posted in 2006 and its now 2008, so this guy couldnt possibly be pregnant for over 2 years.

Guess what brainwashed god zombies... It is real, no hoax. Just the enginuity of modern science. Isn't it beautiful! Good thing that "GOD" gave us the resources, brains, and will to do such beautiful things.

The site is almost sick in a way, but it actually became helpful to me... My college uses it in our research classes to prove a point. My writing reseach class was given the link and told to find out everything we could about the hospital and the most important aspects of the site... Well, we all were able to see that there was no address, no valid contacts, etc.. The point of the site for us was to prove that when doing research.. you can't believe everything on the web!
