Time Traveler Convention
The first ever
time traveler convention is being hosted at MIT on May 7, 2005. Time travellers from all eras are invited to attend, if they haven't already. This will also be the last time travelers convention ever, since obviously only one is needed. The coordinates for this event will be: 42:21:36.025°N, 71:05:16.332°W. (via

I will be there. I have been travelling through time all of my life.

Stephen, are you going?

Are you kidding, Maegan?
To prove his device works, he'd have to go around clubbing people on the head with it.
Hmm, I think I just figured out what I'm gonna tell people at my next high-school reunion
"And what do you do now?"
"I'm an inventor. Wanna try my time travel machine? I guarantee it works, but sometimes you have to use it twice to get the proper results..."

I went. It will be a pretty good party. Stephen will show up about five times. One of him will get really pissed and start hitting on the wall lamp. Actually, now that I think about it, all of him will get pissed. One of him will leave with a hooker, but I'm not so sure she isn't really going to turn out to be a he.
Just remember to leave by 1:15 'cause that's when the time cops show up. Fortunately I will be in the men's room at the time and they will miss me.

I'd be a lot more impressed if they scheduled their convention for, say, 1802, or 2525.

I enjoyed it so much I/we took an entire table to my/our self/s near the back. You'll recognize/recognized me/us by the cloud of redolent puns floating around it.
Have/have had fun!

Just coincidentally, was I there?

Jeremy, I think you meant to say, "Will I be there?"

As we are all fairly certain that time travel doesn't currently exist, and we're also certain it hasn't existed in the past (here on Earth at least), then this party wouldn't have any time travellers at it at all would it? I mean, we know that if time travel exists, it'd only be possible to move forward in time, right? Otherwise we'd know about it conclusively because someone from the future (however distant when it was created) would have arrived here by now.

Shit I missed it.

I am a time traveler. In the time that it took to post this, I traveled from 4:14 30 seconds to 4:15 10 seconds. I have been traveling in time for my entire 46 years of life.
I can teach you how, too.
1. Look at your watch, note the time.
2. Look away.
3. Keep looking away.
4. Look at your watch again. Note the time.
5. Subtract #1 from #4 to discover the distance in time travelled.

Yes, travelling through time isn't really all that impressive. I seem to travel forward about 24 hours every day without even trying.
Now, if somebody could figure out how to STOP traveling through time (without dying), that would be useful.

Bad jokes aside, which for me is something, I can think of three reasons for this convention. 1) the organizers really believe it 2) they are trying to sell somehting 3) it's an excuse for a party. Since I won't be there / wasn't there or whatever, I can't tell which is which. So, I can only say, I had a great time.

I thought I was going to be late attending this conference but I soon realised I arrived just at the right time so I left again to arrive a little earlier. On my second visit I greeted myself arriving so I decided go and come back a little later. One my third return I greeted myself a few hundred times and settled in the bar for a great party with many like-minded people (all called 'me' 'myself' and 'I'). I am likely to be filling the bar for some time so get here soon – if not sooner. Did I do this again next year? I already was!

It's funny, I was describing this event to my son today, describing what a cool job the organizers did to create a really fun evening.
I was there back in 2005 (RSVP'd early, and was in the main hall-- plus, it was my birthday, what a great present)
I think the organizers didn't really realize what a chord they struck in the world of SF minded 'wouldn't this be a cool thing anyone would want to be able to do' individuals-- but compensated very nicely.
This event was hugely attended. People wanted to be there. The content was absolutely spectacular-- physicists explaining the current views science has on time travel, and some nice stunts-- twin brothers pretending they were part of the same timeline-- repeated ala 'Groundhog day', a DeLorean just parked outside the hall when attendees exited.
Even if conventional physics says this can't be possible (except to travel forward in time near the speed of light, if that could be done), maybe the real legacy of this event was to put some 'reality' to dreams everyone enjoys.
