Rats a la Carte
image The latest gross-out food email going around involves a Chinese restaurant in Atlanta supposedly caught accepting shipments of rats and mice. These rats would, I guess, be served to people who enjoy rodents as a delicacy. Some photos accompany the email (rats1, rats2, rats3). The email says that:

After a full search of the kitchen, authorities found, packaged rats, mice, kittens, puppies and a large frozen hawk... The restaurant has locations off Peachtree Road and Alpharetta near North Pointe Mall.

I tried googling for chinese restaurants located on Peachtree Road in Atlanta and came up with a few of them. But needlessly, since David Emery has already debunked this email by doing a news search and confirming that there have been no recent reports of rat-accepting restaurants in Atlanta. Plus, the photos come from a store that sells packaged rats for feeding snakes.

Of course, the biggest problem is that there are about a dozen roads in Atlanta named "Peachtree"

Somebody is bound to put one of these bags on eBay, claiming that it used to belong to Ozzy Osbourne. It'd be fantastic to get thousands of them and just fill an art gallery with packaged rats, it's make your name in the art world.

A dozen? My last trip to Atlanta left me with the impression that there are more like 5,000 local streets and roads called Peachtree or some varitation of it. I don't think Georgians have gotten the point of naming streets-- it's so you can tell them apart!

Pet stores around here sell packaged rats and mice to feed to snakes, lizards and other predatory pets. They even have newborn "pinky" mice for feeding to small reptiles.
In real life, I've heard of people eating rats and mice, but never of restaurants serving them (not on purpose, anyway).

I've been telling you people for weeks that "GWB Eats Dead Rats", and now we have a Rat-a-tooey thread. Co-incidence? I don't think so. Big, Dead, Rats. Daily. And he won't share.

Hairy, doesn't W. prefer live rats?

No, that is a common misconception, probably fueled by old stories of Bush chomping live rats while a brain-burning frat-bro. George W. Bush saw the light some years ago, and has reportedly only eaten Dead Rats since. Many tyrants and despots thruout history have had a proclivity for Dead Rat munching. Hitler was said to have eaten no less than 20 Dead Rats a day, while Mao reportedly had a 40 Dead Rats-a-day habit. GWB is rumored to have developed a Chain-chomping intake of at least 100 Dead Rats a day, but he's said to have cut back while on the campaign trail. The coronation dinner menus should include plenty of Dead Rat fricasee, Dead Rat-a-tooey, Dead Rats A-la-mode, and the perennial D.C. favorite, Dead Rats and Pork. Live pork, that is.

These rumors about Chinese people eating ridiculous things are really quite offensive. And we wonder why the world hates America?

I never said GWB was Chinese.

I have heard that the street names in Atlanta are confusing to confuse and keep the yankees away during the civil war or something... just a rumor I think.

Besides having peachtree in various forms for street names, some streets change names midway. And some have the same street names after making a 90 degree turn (or even a T-intersection with two perpedicular wings of the T with the same name and one wing different).
