Evidence of Adultery For Sale
Status: Undetermined
Bidding ended today on eBay Australia for an "EMPTY CONDOM PACKET & A PHOTO OF 'THE TART'S' KNICKERS." The winning bid was US $303.00.

The story was that a woman was selling a picture of black lacy underwear she had found in her bed after catching her husband having an affair. From Reuters:

The woman says she returned from work after receiving a romantic text message from her husband of 22 years that was clearly misdirected to find him at home watching a DVD and discouraging her from entering their bedroom. In the room she found the empty condom wrapper under his pillow and "the Tart's knickers ... at the foot of the bed." The woman said this was not her last sale on eBay.
She says her husband's Harley motorcycle is "the next item that will probably be sold on eBay at a start price of 99c and, of course, with no reserve!"

Cranky Media Guy asks, "Why do I suspect that this woman's story is not entirely true?" And as I've noted before, "A good story, whether true or not, can sell anything."

Joker Face in Toilet
Status: Pareidolia
Found on eBay: "Dark Knight Joker (Heath Ledger) - Face in My Toilet!" The seller writes:

Plain and simple, you are bidding on my toilet. This toilet was installed in my home in 1971. Recently, I realized that the mineral buildup in the toilet had a strong resemblance to the Joker character in The Dark Knight. Click through the pictures below and see for yourself. Resemblance? You decide. For the winning bidder, we will have a plumber professionally remove the toilet, then have it shipped directly to you. Shipping is $200.

Coincidentally, I'm in the process of remodeling the hallway bathroom in my house and am in the market for a new toilet. But I definitely won't be bidding on this thing.

But at least it's not a Jesus face in a toilet. (Thanks, Heidi)

Air guitar owned by JFK
Status: Joke
You have missed your chance to bid on an "Air guitar owned by JFK":

Extremely rare oppurtunity
up for auction is the only air guitar known to have been owned by US president

JFK President kennedy was under constant stress from political rivals and upsets, so its only natural he would have taken up playing air guitar

Many silent and melancholy impromptu jam sessions haunted the air in Kennedy's office as US president

it was discovered recently in a cold storage unit in its case

the atmospheric conditions left the case with some of the usual imperfections found in aging vintage sound equipment, but the guitar itself (a red solid-body electric resembling a Mustang) is as it was in kennedys hands

Kennedy entertaining premier Khruschev in a moment of naive peacefulness with his faithful air guitar.

Bigfoot Potato Chip
Status: Pareidolia
Don't miss out on this gem on eBay. The seller says: "I have here for auction one ruffled potato chip that looks like Bigfoot. Just for fun, let's call him Chipfoot. grin The chip is in very good/stable condition and should ship quite nicely."

I'd make a bid, but at $3 it's already too pricey for me.

Rare Coin on eBay
Status: questionable eBay auction
This is one of the stupidest eBay auctions I've seen in a while:

GEORGE WASHINGTON COIN,MISS PRINT WHIT BOUTH 2 FACES OF GEORGE WASHINTON 1 IN 1994 AND OTHER SIDE 1979.

Starting bid is $1,000,000. No bids yet.

Some people in the coin talk forum think it might be two magician's coins, cut in half and glued together. I think the guy just took photos of two separate coins.

The misspellings definitely add to the seller's credibility.

Drive Someone Insane With Postcards
Status: Prank
On eBay, right now, you have the chance to bid on a chance to participate in a prank that will "Drive Someone Insane with Postcards." The seller's description reads:
I will be spending the Christmas holiday in Poland in a tiny village that has one church with no bell because angry Germans stole it. Aside from vodka, there is not a lot for me to do.

During the course of my holiday I will send three postcards to one person of your choosing.

These postcards will be rant-ravingly insane, yet they will be peppered with unmistakable personal details about the addressee. Details you will provide me.

The postcards will not be coherently signed, leaving your mark confused, guessing wildly, crying out in anguish.

"How do I know this person? And how does he know I had a ferret named Goliath?"

Bidding is currently up to $185. It seems that the seller has figured out a clever way to make some money while on vacation.

Best of the forum - 21st September 07
Due to my ongoing computer problems and personal situation, this is again brought to you by Madmouse.

Peruvian Meteorite (eovti)
An apparent meteorite landing in Peru has led to reports of illness amongst locals. Original suggestions for the cause of the sickness included radiation poisoning, but that seems unlikely.

Sign Language Translator (Madmouse)
There’s been a lot of discussion in the forum about this story. A group of UK students have developed a system to translate spoken or written words into British Sign Language that is then displayed by an avatar. Suggested uses include translating for meetings and for phone calls. This seems like a very good idea to me, although a lot more development is needed.

Belgium For Sale on Ebay (LaMa)
A disgruntled Belgian, protesting about Belgium’s political problems, put the country up for sale on Ebay. He pointed out that, although the nation is second-hand, the offer included free delivery.

Bigfoot Revealed!!! (gray)
A prankster who has posing as Bigfoot to scare campers for the last two years was captured in Manitoba. Apparently the man was less intimidated by the police than he was by the telling-off delivered by his last ‘victim’.

The Secret of Invisibility
Status: Malarkey
imageThis eBay auction offers a real bargain. For only $24.95 you can purchase the Secret of Invisibility. You will be rendered completely invisible. It's the same technique CIA agents use.

But wait, there's more. Included in the price you also get the Secrets of Sexual Seduction, "guaranteed to bring women into your bedroom." Plus you get "2 cures for male baldness that really work;" "unusual methods to GAIN 4" - 6" in height;" "A method of losing weight without exercise;" AND "X Secret for Men. Grow 2 - 4 inches of intimate length permanently."

I don't know. For $24.95 I think they should also include Superhuman Strength and Immortality. Otherwise, you're really not getting your money's worth.

The seller provides a teaser about what the method is that allows you to achieve all of these powers:
If the desire is strong and the mind’s will is directed upon the task, the universe will satisfy the desire and the desire will become reality. Ask and you will receive. Unbelievably, when asked with intent willpower, the universe provides solutions and fulfills desires!

Hmm. Could the seller possibly be Oprah Winfrey?
