Hoax Web Sites of the New Millennium

Given the vast amount of stuff that clutters the Internet, it's hard enough for a Web site to get noticed, let alone to make people believe that the bogus claims it's offering up are true. Nevertheless, during the new millennium quite a few sites managed to rise to the challenge. In fact, as the web continued to expand and became more and more a part of everyday life, hoax websites really began to come into their own. Given the constantly changing nature of the internet, it can't be guaranteed that any of the sites listed below are still active (though as I'm writing this in 2004, most of them still are). But they all managed to attract lots of attention between 2000 and 2002.
