image Dr. Johann Beringer was genuinely puzzled by the stones local boys were finding on nearby Mount Eivelstadt. Were they ancient pieces of sculpture carved hundreds of years ago by pagans? Were they relics of the Great Flood? Were they the product of 'the marvelous force of petrifying moisture?' He wasn't quite sure, but he was sure that they were the greatest natural history discovery of the century.
