Okay, you're right. I should have asked. So what's
your take on the whole story? What details did I get wrong/right? What's
been the long-term fallout
of the episode for you?

Alex,
I will assume that your book sales is doing well for
the amount of emails that I have been receiving has
once again increased since late last year. Everyone
that I talked to seems to enjoy it.
Answers to your questions:
So what's your take on the whole story?
I have a lot of mixed feelings about everything that
happened. I will tell you this. How does anybody
pull this off? Sit back for a moment and seriously
think about doing what everyone said I did and picture
yourself doing the same. Place "water cooler" ads
about you being a gorgeous guy - I don't know about
you but for me it sounds stupid. Who would believe
you? The answer is nobody would. Think about it.
You will then understand what I am really talking
about here. The emails were never traced back to me.
There were numerous amounts of emails traced to a
single static IP address. Unfortunately for me I got
hit for it because it was the IP address for the
firewall of the organization I worked for. So I got
blamed for it. They never put any thought that the
firewall IP address was also utilized by hundreds of
employees in the entire organization and not just me.
Also how does anyone receive national attention for
being a most talked about "Gorgeous Guy"? I don't
think so. What was placed in print is NOT exactly
what happened. I am not going to discuss this any
further. Its a dead issue for me and I got screwed.
I let everyone think what they wanted to. I just
wanted them to leave me alone. I got tired of being
harassed by the media, the public on the streets,
people at work, family and friends. So I took the
fall for it. Period.
What details did I get wrong/right?
Just leave it alone.
What's been the long-term fallout of the episode for
you?
It never ends. I check this email every so often just
out of pure curiosity and it still amazes me that I
still receive message from something that happened to
me almost 2 years ago. I search the web with google
and news article are still being printed to this date
across the world regarding this story.

Well, here's one consolation from the entire affair.
After seeing your
picture people still thought it was perfectly
credible that you were a
'gorgeous guy.' By contrast, I don't think that my
lovely mug would ever be
able to whip up a gaggle of admirers.

That reminds me. The part where you mention on your
web site "No one knows who posted the original picture
of Baca, but Cassel discovered that the majority of
the initial follow-up messages that drew attention to
the picture had been posted by Baca himself." - If you
are referring to the photo on your web site it was
taken by a freelance photographer for USA Today. A
simular photo appeared in the print version of the
newspaper. If you don't mind me asking - where did
you obtain this photo? Not even I was able to obtain
any photographs. Thanks

I just did a search on google images for 'gorgeous guy.' That was about a year ago, so maybe the article I got it from is no longer up.

Ironically the "Craig" of craigslist.com is a hoax too! Maybe...
See this story:
http://www.sfbg.com/SFLife/tech/54.html
But since I don't believe anything I read and only half of what I see, I don't know if this is just a Hoax to try to get people to buy into the story. I mean can there really be 3,000 lonely women "who write erotic stories about his sexual adventures in a Babylon 5-style universe populated by telepathic aliens and curvaceous spaceship captains?" That seems a little silly...
There is a link to the story on the Craig's list site:
http://detroit.craigslist.org/about/press/craigsdeadbaby.html
Over all it's an amusing little story and makes you think about what we accept as "truth" and what is "real."
