The treasure of the templars is real. It is proven that it was discovered during the first crusade(sp?) as the movie stated, but the tresure never got to the states. You can get all of this after you get to the special features that are unlocked after the bonus treasure hunt.

But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursing invariably the same object, it is their right, it is their duty to throw off such government, and provide new guards for their future security. People really don't talk that way anymore.

For those who are curious about the real Silence Dogood letters, worry no more. The actual letters are on display in the Franklin Institute in Philadelphia. I've seen National Treasure at least a dozen times, and it's so wonderful. There is so much history to be learned.

I have seen the movie National Treasure Several times and I love how it is based on the history of the Decleration of Independance and the Liberty Bell, and I was wondering if anyone knows where I could find scans of the Silence Dogood Letters on the internet?!

Im from london england and i've always loved history especially if it challenges ur mind and intellect. i never knew much about american history until i watched national treasure and having a curious mind, i went to conduct my own researches on d net. i found that every name and history used in d fllm wer actual facts, they were real and that got me thinking, but im sure the film is a mixture of facts and scripts, i don't believe there's any treasure buried under any church in america, but whoever wrote this film must be an highly educated historian to be able to successfully and realistically mix fatcs with scripts, excellent job.

The Silence Dogood letters do exist as does the Freemason organization. Prominent figures in American history are affiliated with it. From Actors to Presidents, all that wanted to be a member are members. I believe that the government is trying to hide the truth of a "National Treasure"...it probably does exist, I don't doubt it.
Among the most notable freemasons are President James Buchanan, Clark Gable, Glenn Ford, Henry Ford, FDR, Lewis and Clark, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle...the list goes on and on.
Don't let the government pull the wool over the eyes of the people!

I have seen "National Treasure" at least 12 times. I thoroughly enjoy the history. However, I don't know how to explain if the treasure actually exists. I guess the only way to find out is to look up JERRY BRUCKHIMER. I don't know if I spelled his last name correctly, but Jerry did write the movie. If someone is wishing to do extensive research, then, by all means, go for it. But just one last question, how are we to find out anything about our government if everything is "behind closed doors"? For example, we, the citizens, have recently lost our property rights. We are told to write to our Congress people, Senators, Representatives, Governors and President. However, do they really take the time to respond, or do they have assistants responding for them? I think we need to infiltrate our government, while leaving it intact, but also uncovering the trught behind our government. We never know what is going on in the White House. We never know what is going on in the Capitol City. The only information we do know is the information they let us know.
If anyone wants to give a rebuttal to my comments, please do. I am always looking for true information about our country. Especially the truth about our "BEHIND THE CLOSED DOORS" country. I am not writing to anger anyone. If I did, I apologise from the very bottom of my little heart. I am just angry with our country about how it is run and I am seriously considering moving to another country. If anyone has anything to say about my possible moving, please let me know. I am open to any advise. I'm all ears. Thanks.

First of all, National Treasure was a great movie. Very entertaining and of course anything that stimulates an interest in American History is fantastic.

Its dismaying though to read so many posts saying that the whole premise of the file must be real since "why would Benjamin Franklin have written the letters if there was no treasure?"

Sigh! He wrote the letters because his older brother James refused to let him do anything but set type and deliver copies of the New England Courant. And as the film quite accurately points out, an "Allendorf cipher" uses any existing written document...i/e for the films purposes, the Dogood letters were not written to conceal clues to the treasure, the cipher was written to make use of the already existing letters.

That being said...if you choose to believe there's a real treasure....be sure to cut me in on a piece if you find it!!
